TUESDAY 22nd/APRIL
2014.
So we were
up sharp this morning and after a quick cup of tea we shot over to Claus &
Doreen’s villa and then went in their car to Estepona; the sun was out and it
gradually got warmer as the day went on, there is a little ‘Levante’ breeze
blowing in from Africa and there is more of the same weather up to Saturday, so
far!
We had a
coffee and tostado in our favorite early morning restaurant opposite the
barbers shop before Claus & I had our shampoo and cuts, see the picture above
of us with Manuel the barber! The girls meantime went shopping; Doreen found a
top in ‘Mango’ and Brenda put her dress watch in for repair and then bought
some essential cosmetics before finding a new pair of ‘Jesus’ sandals for me
for my ‘Easter ‘present!
We then
went for a nice walk around the old streets of Estepona( more pictures above)
and called into the small indoor market before stopping for a nice cold beer
and some rather nice mini-brochettes of Gambas to start the lunch off! It was
then time to go back along the front to the far end of Estepona to go down to
the fishing port next to the marina to go to the very popular fish
restaurant “ La Escollera ” It is always
very busy, you must get there early to get a table ,if you don’t it fills up and
you have to wait for a long time!
Claus &
Doreen had salads to start as they did not have any of the fresh ‘Pulpo –
Octopus’ in from this mornings catch so they has some fresh Mussels in the
shell and one of my favorites ‘ Tortellini Camarones’ – the crisp egg-fried
very small baby shrimps from ‘Sanluca de Barrameda’ I had deep-fried ‘Anchovies
– Whitebait’ – the classic dish from the late 60s!
For our
main course Claus and I had some lovely local fresh grilled ‘John Dory – Saint
Peter’s fish’ - Brenda who is still feeling a little under the weather with her
cough just had some small Baby grilled Soles(4) caught this morning and Doreen
had grilled ‘White fish fillets – Cod’ A rather nice lunchtime treat with our
German friends and not expensive!
See all the
pictures above of the ‘Streets’ of Estepona, the outside of the market hall and
later the restaurant next to the fish port and marina including an old sailing
vessel coming in from Gibraltar in the background!
Later this
evening it’s the official opening of the new passage-way so some pictures
later; this week in sunny Manilva its also ‘Cultural Week’ starting tomorrow on
“St.Georges Day”! – All sorts of things
happening mainly in the Wine Theater – Book and Art Shows, Flamenco dancing
& singing,Conservatoire music etc. Watch this space.
