“ GOOD
FRIDAY SEMANA SANTA ” – NEWS UPDATE;
As you can
see below it was a glorious day in sunny Manilva with a little breeze as the
two processions took place; on ‘Good Friday’ it’s the day when the ladies of
the village dress in the traditional Black ‘La Mantillia’ as you can see in the
pictures below, also the Purple hooded ‘Nazarneo’s’ are youngsters! The village
Brass Band is also at its largest as the play the music that has been chosen by
the Brotherhoods.
In all the
processions all the members are from the village with fathers and sons, mothers
and daughters, brother and sisters and various family members; in my ‘People’
pictures below you can see Marta in her ‘Mantillia’ for the first time, she
lives at the bottom of our street and we have seen her grow up, the two
councilors Diego & Mario are my ‘Grape’ crushing companions, Mario’s wife
is in the picture on the left with the Mayor Antonia on the left, our friend
‘Paco – Ringo’ is also the ‘Honoree’ conductor along side Fernando as he’s the
oldest member of the band.
The two
young men in the dark glasses are brothers, Christian & Antonio and live at
the bottom of our street, the Chief of Police,Paco also has lots of family
members taking part and the full council members have lots of their close
family in the procession;
Valentina
is the ‘Lady in Black’ she’s from the ‘Foreign Residents Department’ and is Rumanian/Spanish speaker,
Antonia with her son and baby daughter is our next door neighbors niece, the
leader of one of the ‘Tronos’ also lives in our street, his wife Anna Marie is
on the left with our ‘Campo Egg’ lady Antonia who is also related to lots of
the families in the village, Pillar is outside her house and is our next door neighbor
above us, carrying the ‘Tronos’ in the pictures are various friends including
Lumy’s youngest son Paco.
I make
printed glossy photo pictures and give then to the various people, the Chief of
Police has them on his wall in his office as does the Mayor Antonia! They also
end up in frames in all the house’s around the village including on the wall of
‘Bar Rojas’!!
Finally
last night at mid-night it was the third procession of the day when “De la Soledad ” which is undertaken in strict
silence – we did not make it !
