TUESDAY 13TH JULY 2010.
Andy Schleck took over the yellow jersey after a punishing stage which left the Australian,Cadel Evans’ victory hopes in tatters; Evans was dramatically dropped and looked like he was riding through treacle;BradleyWiggins also has lost a lot of time but Lance Armstrong made an awesome recovery and he might yet very well get a podium place in Paris.Luxembourger Schleck and Alberto Contador chased a quartet of four riders that jumped from the pelaton,Sandy Casar was first across the line but Schleck and Contador, the two time champion, meanwhile fought a fascinating duel,Schleck three times attacked but in the end they almost caught the leaders at the finish ! In the overall standings Schleck is first and Contador is 41 seconds behind in second place.
The 25 year old Schleck will wear the yellow jersey for the first time in his career on Wednesday as the riders make their way from Chambery to Gap on Bastille Day –watch out for a French rider to win !
Well it was not a Frenchman that won the stage but Sergio Paulinho from Portugal by 10cm in a photo finish ! The six riders broke from the peleton early in the stage and built up a large lead but the result did not change the general classification;I think it is safe to say that this stage has been the least exciting of the tour, the last decent was spectacular,Hairpins aplenty down a steep drop with only a shallow wall to prevent any form of fatal crash.
The best part of today was the scenery over all the stage taken from the helicoptors of the high Alps !!
NB; Thursday's stage from Sistern to Bourg-les-Valence over 185km is one for the sprinters so Cavendish should be back in contention.
