THURSDAY 29TH JULY 2010.
On yet another balmy evening as we attended the last of the free summer concerts arranged by the council and Fernando Antintolo Bueno, the director of the School of Music; the largest audience so far watched and listened to the Piano-Jazz concert, the first half was Fransisco Martin Gambero “ Paco ”the excellent pianist from last week with the band performing a classical set on a special electric piano starting with Chopin, some Spanish classical numbers and finishing with a George Gershwin Medley. The audience sat enthralled and very quiet as they appreciated the talent of Paco.
For the second half he was joined on stage by Fernando Antinolo Torres on drums and the voice of Isabel Pastor Gonzalez, the electric piano also had a pedal base system which Paco used to lay down a base line; Isabel who has a easy listening voice sang in English and Spanish, The Spanish version of The Girl From Ipanema was captivating and her Besame Mucho was dedicated to a member of the audience, the guest singer Nacho Valiente performed a earthy Spanish song with great feeling. Fernando then gave another virtuoso performance on the clarinet of the classic Take Five before Isabel ended with one of her personal favorites, the Billy Joel number,Just The Way you Are. The whole audience rose to their feet to applaud another excellent concert and called for an encore; What a Wonderful World was just right to finish off the set and about summed up the evening. We will miss our Thursday evenings out and look forward to future concerts arranged by the School of Music and especially Fernando’s contribution.
