A ' CRISP' DRY & SUNNY MANILVA ON ' GOOD FRIDAY'

FRIDAY 19th/ APRIL 2019.   “ GOOD FRIDAY “

We had a nice, long, well earned lie in this morning, as it’s a ‘ Bank Holiday’ here in Spain, the village is even quieter than normal, after freshening up as I was on the breakfast rota we had my famous ‘ Toasted Crispy Smoked Bacon Butties’ – smothered in ‘HP’ Brown sauce – open on brown for Brenda, with mugs of strong/hot ‘PG Tips’ Tea, to set us up for the day ahead!

Last night we went up to ‘Calle Mar’ at midnight, to watch the main ‘ Procesion De Jesus Nazareno ‘ – led by the children in their Purple Robes, then the village dignitaries, led by Mario, The Mayor, followed by the ‘Manilva Brass’ Band, led by Fernando, and the ‘Tronos’ carried by the ‘ Nazarenos’ on their shoulders, the whole village follows as they make their way around the village, outside ‘ Bar Ocaña’ the ‘Tronos’ stopped, by tradition and swayed as ‘ Fransisco Ocaña’ sang the ‘ Saetas’ – a type of religious singing, from Seville, it resembles flamenco, with no musical accompaniment, as he ‘ Salutes’ the ‘Tronos’ – the whole village goes very quiet, as he finishes there is a shout of ‘Ole’! - then clapping follows from the crowd!!

See below the images from last night.

Yesterday after the heavy rain first thing, when we were out, it then stayed dry for the rest of the day & night, the blue sky appeared by the late afternoon, with a stiff breeze blowing, a ‘ Levente’ up from the Mediterranean, so by midnight it was crisp and dry, as the procession was able to take place, this morning has started with a clear blue sky, no clouds and a light breeze,  hovering on the 18/19 degs mark, which means that ‘ fingers-crossed’ this evening ‘Grand Parade’  should take place.

See below the sunrise over the Mediterranean this morning.

It’s the ‘ Procesion Del Santo Entierro Y Ntra.Sra. De Los Dolores’ ´- which is led by the ‘ Ladies’ of the village in their Black Court Dresses, by tradition, as a sign of respect, with a ‘Peineta’ – a high comb, with a ‘Mantilla’ – a black veil – one of the highlights of ‘ Holy Week’ – ‘ fingers crossed’ that it as forecast stays dry.

Tomorrow the ‘ wet-stuff’ is due back, on ‘ Easter Sunday’ at the moment the forecast is for patchy clouds & sunshine, staying dry, reaching 20 degs+ by lunchtime, next week when we are over in Malaga on Tuesday/Wednesday, it’s now showing a ‘ crisp’ but dry spell, hovering in the low 20s, going warmer by next weekend, watch this space.

See below the ‘Puerto De La Duquesa Marina’ this morning and a view from our friend’s  Peter, balcony.

Over in the USA, Jeff & Annette, on their grand tour, have reached ‘ Newport, Rhode Island ‘ and are at the now in Washington, D.C. – see the pictures below;

For our late supper this evening we are having ‘Pan-Seared Fillets of the Tail-End of Salmon’ – finished ‘ A La Meuniere’ with foaming Lemon & Parsley Butter, with Garden Peas and Baby New Potatoes, in their skins. On Saturday I’m cooking ‘ A La Carte’ – to order – ‘ Steak Diane ‘ – for our ‘Easter Sunday’ special, we are having ‘ Campo’ Scrambled Eggs topped with Smoked Salmon, for lunch and in the evening I’m making my famous ‘ Smoked Chicken & Three Green Bean Risotto’ !

At the moment we are watching on the TV all the main parades in Malaga & Seville, including the World famous ‘Macarena’ processions, this evening after supper we will channel hop to find something to watch, no doubt ‘ Spartacus’ will be showing!

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
