A NOW DRY & SUNNY MANILVA ON ' MOTHERING SUNDAY'
We managed another nice lie in this morning
to make up for the hour lost after the clocks went forward. We then freshened up
and had a quick toast & tea before getting today’s supper on the go.
Yesterday evening the ‘ wet-stuff’ finally
hit us, after nearly six months of no rain, it was not heavy and didn’t last
very long, this morning the breeze has also dropped and the blue sky is showing
with patchy clouds, at the moment it’s staying dry, but the threat of the ‘wet-stuff’
returning is still in the air, only reaching 18 degs by lunchtime, overnight
down to 12 degs, next week is looking like we are in for more of the same, hovering
in the high ‘ teens’ – reaching 21 degs by mid-week, with the chance of the sun
breaking through, patchy clouds and moderate to heavy rain possible, the
following week is not looking much better, watch this space.
For our ‘ Mothering Sunday ‘ roast we are
having a rolled “ Roast Aged Sirloin of
Beef “ with Yorkshire Pudding, the joint was seasoned with ‘Sea Salt’ and placed
on a bed of Trivets, in a very hot-oven, basted once and then when ‘ Med-Rare –
Pink no blood’ - it was taken out and left to rest, the ‘ Vegetable Chef’
meanwhile was preparing Broccoli & Cauliflower Florets ( Plain) Glazed Chunky
Carrots & Turnips, Whole Green Beans, Braised Onion and Garden Peas, at the
same time she par-boiled the Potatoes ( sliced in half) before I tossed them in
the ‘Hot Goose Fat’ ready to go in the hot oven this evening, I then made my
now famous, finger-licking ‘ Deep Pan Gravy’ using a rich Vegetable & Beef
Stock, the aromas are wafting upstairs as I’m typing/posting today’s Blog.
Just a very quick update on yesterdays
football results; Manchester City won 0-2 and Everton also won 0-2, Barcelona
won 2-0.
Sandra has just sent Brenda a very special ' Mother's Day' message from Everett, Ontario, Canada, very many thanks and lots of love xxxx
Yesterday evening as we were just about to
cook our supper we had a 30 minute power cut, then later more short cuts,
meaning that we missed the end of the film that we were watching, as it takes
some time to re-set the ‘IPTV’ system! I’m keeping my ‘ Finger-Crossed’ ( only
the right hand at the moment!) that it
stays on later this evening for the first episode of the excellent and gripping
return of “ Line of Duty “ Watch this space.
As Brenda was ‘ proof-reading’ – as usual -
today’s Blog, we were listening to the ‘Pete Blacks Retro Road Show ‘ on ‘
Castle Radio FM 89.2 & Online on the WWW’ –he gave us a nice mention and
played a ‘Helluva’ Joe Bonamassa track, that we danced too, I had sent in ‘Lady’
Brenda’s answer to the ‘ Movie Quiz ‘ – it was “ Frankenstein “ ‘It’s Alive ‘
from 1931! She’ in the monthly draw for
the Mug! Watch this space.
PS; Sadly it's going to have to be next month!

A ' CRISP' AND OVERCAST SUNNY MANILVA ON SATURDAY.
We had a nice long, undisturbed, lie in
this morning, after a week of early starts, the village, as usual, was very
quiet, we then freshened up, Brenda is washing/shampooing her hair later, as
she was on the weekly breakfast rota, I then had her famous ‘ Campo Poached
Eggs on Toast’ – Boiled for her with toast fingers, with mugs of strong/hot
tea.
Next week I have my now usual four early
morning appointments at the ‘ Estepona Hospital’ at the ‘ Physiotherapy
Department’ for more extensive treatment on my left hand, on Tuesday morning I
will be dropping off Brenda, first thing, at the main ‘ Medical Centre’ in
Sabinillas as she has her appointment for her Blood Tests etc, on Friday I will
be back out on my travels, down to Sabinillas, for the weekly shopping.
In ‘ Doggy World Heaven’ on Tuesday evening
‘ Scruffy’ is being dropped off for a sleep-over as Adrian has an important
appointment on Wednesday morning at the main Hospital over in Malaga, for his
first ‘Prostate Radiotherapy’ Sadly our
4 day’s away ‘ House & Doggy ‘ sitting in a grand villa in Mijas Pueblo, in
the mountains, the following week, has been cancelled as Clive has to go into
hospital for a operation & then treatment, Carolyn, his wife let us know
yesterday.
We had a nice, long, news update from
Sandra & Bill on ‘Facebook Messenger’ yesterday, it’s the start of the six month
countdown to their visit, they are very busy, as usual, this Monday they are
going on a ‘ Getaway Break’ to ‘ Niagara on the Lake’ and are celebrating their
‘Anniversary’ with dinner at their favourite restaurant ‘ Zees Grill’ We have
arranged a ‘ Skype’ video call for the following Sunday, see below a picture of
Bill Cider tasting at Thornbury, on a freezing day and then another picture of
him with their first ‘ Fire Pit’ of 2019, back at the house in Everett, ‘
Spring is in the Air ‘ “ Happy Anniversary “
This morning has started rather overcast
and grey with dark clouds on the horizon, the sun is attempting to break
through, the wind has dropped to a stiff breeze, so by lunchtime it’s due to
only reach 17 degs+ with the threat of the ‘ Wet-Stuff’ about to hit us,
tomorrow and all of next week is looking the same, hovering in the high ‘ teens’
with rain, moderate to heavy at times, lots of clouds and the breeze keeping it
cool, on one forecast it’s showing sunny days, watch this space.
See below a picture of the “ Costa Del
Mersey “ taken this morning from Egremont
on the Wirral Peninsula.
On the sports front this weekend; over in
the ‘ Premier League’ Manchester City are down at Fulham, Everton are down at
West Ham and in the opposite direction Liverpool welcome Tottenham Hotspur, over
in ‘La Liga ’it’s the local ‘ Derby Game’ as Barcelona welcome Espanyol, Real
Madrid are also at home to play lowly Huesca. The ‘ Grand Prix’ is tomorrow
evening in Bahrain, today’s horse racing is from Kempton Park & Doncaster, over
the ‘ Flat’!
See below a picture of the commencement of
the work on ‘ Calle Iglesia- Church Street’ – which is due to take six months!
For our supper this evening we are having
the old classic ‘ Tournedos Rossini ‘ – named after the 19th century
composer ‘ Gioachino Rossini’ – created by the French Master Chef ‘ Antione
Careme’ – ‘Fillet Steaks’ pan-fried in butter, served on a crouton and topped
with warm ‘Foie Gras’ - finished with a Madeira Glaze, in my version the steaks
are wrapped in Smoked Bacon, baked in the oven, topped with Iberico Pate!
Accompanied with whole ‘ French ‘ Green Beans and of course twice-cooked ‘Frits’
Last night we caught the final of ‘ Master
Chef ‘ – as the correct lady cook won! This evening we will after supper
channel hop to find something to watch, not forgetting to put all the clocks
forward an hour, before we go to bed!

A VERY WINDY AND NOW CLEARING SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND.
I was up early again this morning, for the
last time this week, and after a quick freshen up I shot off on my travels down
to Sabinillas for our weekly shopping, I popped into ‘ ItZabar’ for my usual
toast & tea before ‘ Mercadona’ opened, I then called into the ‘Ferreterias’
for some light bulbs, he told me from September it’s only going to be ‘ LED’ bulbs!
I then called into the local ‘ Halal’ Butchers
next door, where I pick up some spices, he had on show some large ‘Legs of Lamb’-
as well as his usual selection of meats, I asked him the price of the ‘Lamb’
and was pleasantly surprised! Our next ‘ Roast ‘!! - in a week’s time. Watch this space.
I picked up the local newspapers and a
Birthday Card, from the ‘ English Bookshop’ before going along to the far end
of a very windy, storm lashed, promenade, as the ‘Mediterranean’ crashed onto
the beach, to the local market for some fresh flowers & wall plants, it was
then time to shoot back up the hill, through the vine fields, on the way
passing a new ‘Venta’ that is about to open, that a Spanish friend owns, it’s
had workmen over the past few weeks getting it re-painted, a new car-park
finished & refurbished inside, over the years various people have rented
it, with no luck, this time it’s looking rather good for ‘ Venta La Vista ‘! Watch this space.
This morning it’s very cold & windy, as
the ‘Levante’ breeze continues to blow in from the Mediterranean, it was cloudy
with dark clouds on the horizon, with no sign of the sun braking though, the
threat of the ‘ wet-stuff’ is in the air, possibly later today and then over
the weekend, only reaching 17 defs+ - next week is not looking much better, to
start, then the breeze is due to drop by mid-week, bringing with it the sunshine
again, going back up to 20/21 degs at times by next weekend.
See below the forecast for Estepona’ over
the next few days!
For our supper this evening we are having ‘
Pan- Seared Fillets of Rodaballo - Turbot ‘ – finished ‘A La Meuniere’ style, dredged in flour, and pan-fried in foaming Lemon
Parsley Butter, served with finely sliced ‘ French’ Green Beans, Broccoli
Florets and Baby New Potatoes in the skins.
On Saturday evening we are having again ‘
Grilled Fillet Steaks’ with all the trimmings and then on ‘ Mothering Sunday’
it’s going to be a rolled “ Roast Aged Sirloin of Beef “ with Yorkshire
Pudding, a large selection of Vegetables and of course ‘ Goose-Fat’ Roast Potatoes
and my famous ‘ finger-licking’ Deep-Pan Gravy!
This afternoon we will be back watching all
the ‘ Quiz Shows ‘ that we follow ‘ Countdown, Tipping Point, The Chase,
Pointless, Egg Heads ‘ and then later we will catch the final of ‘ Master Chef’
with three lady ‘ cooks going for the win! Last night we caught later a good
film “ The American “ from 2010, starring George Clooney in the title role, as
a gunsmith and contract killer, who’s bosses/handlers try to assassinate him, watch it to find out what happens!
