A WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON SUNDAY;

SUNDAY 25th / SEPTEMBER 2016.

We managed a nice lie in this morning, with no interruptions, before the church bells started calling the faithful to Mass! After freshening up with had breakfast, the ‘ Breakfast Chef ’ produced her famous ‘Campo Poached Eggs on Toast’ with mugs of steaming tea. Brenda is pottering about & I’m up in the office/studio on the ‘WWW’ catching up with all the news etc before typing and posting the Blog.

I would like to say a ‘ Big Thank You ‘ to everybody who sent me E-Mails, Facebook messages/likes/timeline wishes etc from around the World, family & friends, ex-staff and lots of village locals, the modern technology still astound us to this day, at the moment I’ve three cards with 5/6 still lost in the Spanish postal system, tradition still rules, don’t be put off, keep sending the cards and postcards!

It’s another fine day down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ – warm & sunny with just a little breeze, the forecast is for the Autumn temperatures to be a little higher than normal, next week is looking very good.

Yesterday evening we went down in a taxi to the castle in ‘ Castillo de Duquesa’ for the launch of the Events Programme by the ‘Foreign Residents Department’ of the Council. It was packed in the old square  in the center of the castle as they introduced the various dignitaries including the Mayor, Diego, who later reminded me that he has kept a ‘Vendimia Sombrero ‘ for me! See the pictures above of the start of the music & dancing before we left to go for supper.

We walked, slowly, along through the gardens, to ‘ Puerto de la Duquesa’ which for the time of the year was still packed with lots of English tourists, all the restaurants were doing a roaring business, including ‘ Restaurante Macues ‘

The old proprietor greeted us and took us to a window table, which he had kept for us, overlooking the marina, the three waiters were fully extended but still gave us excellent service, I had the ‘ House Prawn Cocktail’ to start, for her main course Brenda had the ‘ Fillet of Sea Bass’ in a Mustard sauce, garnished with Prawns, a large Mussel & turned New Potatoes, with vegetables on the side, I had the ‘ Grilled Sole ‘ filleted at the table with a side order of ‘ Frits’ on the side, the House speciality is a whole Sea Bass baked in a salt crust, for two persons, ( see the picture below )  they did 5/6 during the evening, we had a couple of glasses of the ‘House Cava’ to start and a very nice half-bottle of the ‘ Marques De Riscal Rueda’  for Brenda - a fine white wine from the famous estate. Complimentary Limoncello & Cognac at the end of the meal. Another excellent meal, cooked to perfection and well served, our favourite evening restaurant did us proud again! See the pictures above.

At lunchtime we are going up to 'Bar Rojas' for the Paella sat under the Sonbajo, this evening for supper the 'Head Chef & his Second Chef' are back on duty so we are having a large  'Grilled Entrecote Steak' cooked on a very hot griddle plate ' Med-Rare' - left to rest and cut ' French' style served with all the usual trimmings including ' Pont Neuf' Potatoes,  See below;

Just a quick update on yesterdays scores; Liverpool won 5-1, Everton were beaten at home 0-1 & Manchester City won 1-3, meanwhile over here Barcelona won 0-5 without an injured Messi but Real Madrid could only manage a 2-2 draw as Ronaldo was substituted for the first time in seven years, he didn’t look a happy bunny!!

Thoughts for the Day; See above.
