I was up early this morning and after ‘
Reina’ was dropped off for the day I shot out on my travels down to Sabinillas
for the weekly shopping; after calling into the bank I stopped at the ‘ English
Bookshop ‘ for a birthday card and the local newspapers, the main shop this
week was in ‘ Mercadona’ – I then went along the promenade to the local market
for the fresh flowers & wall plants. Back at the house ‘ Chispa’ was
waiting to welcome me back, along with Brenda!
Today is going to be a hot one, the sun was
out early and its already very hot with no breeze, we are in for a very hot
weekend and next weeks forecast is looking very good, back to our normal July
weather. See the picture below of ' Puerto de la Duquesa' this morning.
For our supper this evening its going to be ‘
Hake Fillets Meuniere ‘ with Garden Peas & Parsley New Potatoes, on
Saturday we are having ‘ Grilled Entrecote Steaks’ and then for Sunday its
going to be ‘Medallions of Pork Fillet’
On the sports front, today, at Wimbledon
its the ‘ Men’s Semi-Finals’ – Federer & Murray should meet in the final on
Sunday,,last night France beat Germany 2-0 and so play Portugal in the ‘ UEFA
European Championship’ Final on Sunday, at the ‘ British Grand Prix ‘ at
Silverstone its the practise sessions and today’s ‘Stage 7’of the ‘ Tour De France ‘ is from L’Isle-Jourdan
to Lac De Payolle 0ver 162 kms. – its a classic ‘ climbers stage ‘ so the
favourites should start to take over the race, see the route map below, watch
this space.
Now for last night’s ‘ Surprise Helluva
Night ‘ We went along to ‘ Bar Castillo ‘ for our Tapas supper, which was very
nice as usual, as we were sat taking in the cooler night air it started to get
busy, but with strangers, they looked like an old rock band, which turned out
to be not far off the truth! I asked one of our local Councillor’s what was
happening and she informed me that there was a ‘ Blues Concert’ a little later in
the ‘ Casa de Torres Cultural Centre’ just down the street! There has been no advertising/posters
etc? -so it was a nice surprise, to say the least!
We shot down to the centre and is was full
of locals, mainly all the older folks including the ‘ Maria’s’ The ‘ Band ‘
then came on stage, in the open air plaza, a five piece Spanish combo, who started with a
very good instrumental blues number, they then introduced the singer, who
turned out to be an old English ‘ Rock Singer/Producer with a ‘ Helluva’ voice!
– “ Mike Vernon Y Los Garcia “ – his first number was ‘ Kansas City ‘- so we
sang along as we were the only English in the audience !! I was soon up dancing
& clapping, as he did all sorts of classic blues numbers, the band was
excellent with a very special ‘Italian’ Hammond Organ keyboard player, a young lead
guitarist and three old rockers on guitar, bass and drums, the place was
rocking and I got some of the locals to dance, move and jump to the music!!
Thoughts for the Day; See above;
