SUNNY MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY

WEDNESDAY 22nd/ MAY 2013.

This morning we caught the bus down to Sabinillas, as we got to the bus stop next to the new park they had just started on the wall display; they are using individual tiles not small mosaic ones so it is going up quickly as you can see in the pictures below. The sun is out and it is already hot, 23degs and rising!

The reason that we went down to Sabinillas was to go to the phone shop were we bought Brenda’s new phone as the gentleman was very helpful and spoke a little English; I got him to have a look at my mobile as the ‘Jazztel’ help system does not have a English helpline, he has sorted the phone out for me by totally resetting the system but that means that I now have to install all over again all my connections ie. Facebook, Skype, Googlemail, Sextonstravels, Internet etc! The good news is that the contacts list is fine – watch this space.

We then went and found the new English tea shop that has opened called “Vetty’s” which is just behind the sea front, we had a proper cup of tea from the pot with tea strainer and fresh milk – I also had a very nice Smoked Gammon Bap – all the fresh homemade cakes and scones on display look very appetizing for another day! See the picture above.

This afternoon I will be watching the ‘Giro d’Italia’ stage 17 which is from Caravaggio to Vicenza over 214kms – the stage is flat for the first 190kms but there is then a short/sharp climb before the dash downhill to the finish 16kms away! A possible Cavendish win?! Not to be, the climb caught him out - the Italian rider Giovanni Visconti wins the stage,his second in this years tour!

Brenda has more washing out as it is a good drying day and she is also catching up with ironing, so I’ am keeping out of the way in the office! This afternoon I bumped into our friend Barbara and we are now going around to her house in the early evening as her husband Peter set up my mobile when I first got it - it is past me so hopefully he will get it sorted out ! Watch this space.

This evening for supper we are having Baked Pork Chop with Boulangere Potatoes, Cabbage with Alselgas and Carrots before we settle down to watch a bit of TV.

Thoughts for the Day;

Luck is believing you’re lucky.  Luck never gives; it only lends.  Luck never made a man wise. The only sure thing about luck is that it will change.

MANILVA AT THE START OF A SUNNY WEEK

MONDAY 15th/ TUESDAY 16th/ APRIL 2013.

The forecast for the week is warm and sunny, this morning as I’ am typing this we have just been out and it is already 24/25degs. and getting hotter! We had a nice day at home on Monday and pottered about the house, Brenda has caught up with her washing, drying and ironing, Andy called in to help me with a couple of problems on the small PC in the morning and in the afternoon Brenda had a read and I had my first ‘Siesta’ of the year – back into the summer routine- a ‘Winston Churchill’ does you good!

In the evening we had the leftover vegetables and Boulangere Potatoes with the rest of the Lamb Cutlets before we channel hopped and watched for the umpteenth time “ Patriot Games ” from 1992 – it’s the same result in the end! The cast includes Harrison Ford as ‘Jack Ryan’ Anne Archer, Patrick Bergin,Sean Bean,Thora Birch, James Earl Jones and Richard Harris .

This morning I called into our butchers and got him to cut me two Pork Chops ‘English style’ instead of the thinner Pork ‘Chuleta’s’ as normal for a change; I’ve just made a ‘Charcutiere sauce’ with diced Onions, Sautéed Gherkins,Mustard,Vineager and some secret ingredients – you can smell it at the bottom of our street ! I then went around to the church as they are finishening erecting the T-bone crane today – a picture blog will appear above later!

Tonight for supper I will griddle the Pork Chops and finish them in the oven, Brenda has made her Cabbage with Alsegas this morning and also Diced Carrots, the last of the Boulangere Potatoes will just be right to go with them.

Thoughts for the Day;

I put all my genius into my life; I put only my talent into my work.  Common sense is instinct. Enough of it is genius.  Talent may be in time forgiven, but genius never.

MANILVA THIS WEEK.

TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY 27th/28th DECEMBER 2011.

The weather forecast for the week and over the weekend is more of the same, sun and blue skies and getting warmer; Tuesday was no exception as we went for our walk with Cheta around the village after our local TV repair man had called in to get us back to normal, he was here about an hour and worked on the mast and receivers and totally retuned the TV; the outcome is that we now have all the main channels working perfectly and we now are able to watch any English origin films and programmes,in English, by pressing the translate button! We found episodes of ‘Cheers ’and even a golden oldie ‘Poldark ’from back in 1975 as well as current shows. Later in the morning I made a hot Curry Sauce and in the evening we had, guess what? Turkey Curry and Basmati rice. We then settled down to watch a film in English ‘The Devils Brigade ’ a world war two story starring William Holden and Cliff Robertson – all action.

Today, Wednesday is even nicer, shirt only if you feel like it,we had a Skype Video call from Jack and Lyn on their way back from Sydney to Melbourne- they where in their caravan and they had just had a seafood supper at a restaurant on the coast by Eden above Cape Howe. We then set off on our walk around the village; we bumped in Anna, Carlos and Fabio outside Bar Rojas so caught up with all the news and had a nice drink sat in the sunshine, Brenda yesterday actually caught a little sun on her shoulders when she was sat up on the roof terrace! Fabio was playing with a baby Lamb that Manolo,from Bar Rojas, is bottle feeding-it has been abandoned by its mother as you can see in the picture above, also they have started to repair the old Cinema which has been closed for many year, it is opposite the new park, in the past all the villages had Cinema’s and most of the older people in the village did the courting there ! Watch this space. Tonight we are giving the Turkey a rest and are having Steak and Chips with Mushrooms and Onions for a change.

Thought for the Day;

Forget about mistakes that you can’t change. But don’t forget the lessons that you’ve learnt.
