We had a nice lie in this morning as we
have no guests with us in ‘ Doggy World Heaven’ at the moment, the village was
also very quiet, at the same time, after freshening up I put the gas bottle out
to be exchanged by the delivery man later, we then had our breakfast, a ‘Toasted
Smoked Back Bacon Butty’ – smothered in ‘HP’
Brown sauce, for me, and open on brown toast for Brenda, with some sliced
cooked ‘ Pork’ sausage on the side, with mugs of strong tea, to get another day
on the go!
The sun broke through earlier this morning
and the sky is cloudless and blue, there is a light, cool, breeze, so by
lunchtime it’s only going to reach 18/18 degs+ - you now need a ‘Woolie’ on
your shoulders, over the next few days and into the weekend it’s staying the
same, up to 21 degs+ on Sunday, overnight dropping down to a cooler than
normal, 10/11 degs mark, ‘ Duvet’+ time! The breeze is going a little stiffer
& cool, as we go into next week, which is forecast to be a little ‘ Windy
& Wet’- with moderate to heavy rain possible, a few clouds hanging around, as
the sunshine breaks through on occasions, watch this space.
Going back to a old memory of Liverpool in
the late 60s, when I was the Manager of the famous ‘ Stork Hotel’ in Queens
Square, opposite the ‘Royal Court Theatre’ I watched, everyday, from the front
steps, as the then ‘ St John’s Beacon’ now the ‘Radio City Tower’ was being
built, using the slip-formed concrete continuous system, the Hotel was asked by
the builders to supply the ‘ Topping-Off ‘ celebrations, so I set off, with a ‘Hard
- Hat’ on, in my Black Pin Stripes etc, in the then open builders cage lift! (
around 1968)
I served, with the help of two of our ‘Greek’
waiters, ‘Moet Chandon’ Champagne with assorted ‘Canapes’ for the invited civic
guests and draft ‘ Watneys Red Barrel’ with Sausage rolls for the ‘ workers’! The
wind got up and we had to pour the champagne under the table, one glass at the
time, then hand it out, using trays was not possible, the draft beer had to be
pulled holding the old fashioned beer mugs, nearly horizontally, to get some
beer in the glasses!
It was officially opened in 1969 by Queen
Elizabeth 11 – in 1970 we went with friends to the revolving restaurant, which
is now the studios for ‘Radio City, Magic & City Talk’ “ Happy Memories of Times Past “
See below;
For our supper this evening we are having an
old favourite “ Chicken Schnitzels “ – using ‘Escalopes of Chicken Breast’ –
dipped in flour, egg-wash and breadcrumbs from the local Bakery, shallow fried
in Vegetable Oil, until crisp & golden, then topped with a ‘ Campo’ Fried Egg
& Anchovy Fillets and Capers – “ Holstein “ style – accompanied with lots of Lemon Wedges, served
with finely sliced ‘ French’ green Beans and ‘ Spaghetti Milanese’ – tossed in
a Tomato Salsa with stripes of Smoked Ham.
‘ Food of the Gods ‘
We are taking things easy for the rest of
the day, relaxing, doing nothing, because we can, later channel hopping to find
something to watch, last night we caught the final episode of the very gripping
‘ Dublin Murders’ as the full tale was solved, all the loose ends came together,
with lots of surprises, a shooting and the ‘murderers’ revealed, as well as the
main characters ending up in separate places!
The New ‘ Rick Stein’s Secret France’
showed him in his own car ( a Silver Porsche Cayenne ) as he explored towns and
villages away from the main routes, for the best gastronomic secrets of France,
the first dish that he ate, in Dieppe, the fishing port on the coast of Normandy,
was Turbot, straight off the boats!
Thoughts for the Day; See above.
