We had a nice lie in this morning and after
freshening up we had our usual Saturday morning breakfast of Brenda’s perfect ‘
Campo’ Poached Eggs on Toast, Scrambled for her on Brown Toast, with mugs of
strong/ hot Tea to start the weekend in the right direction!
As I settled into the office/studio to
start typing/posting the Blog, I had a message on ‘Facebook’ from our dear
fried Brian, he said that he could come around after his breakfast and help me
to start the online request documents to change our ‘ Internet’ provider, from ‘Movistar
to OliveNet ‘ I had all the necessary information/documents
ready, which he downloaded ( in colour) onto his Mobile and then sent to my E-Mail.
The connection/procedure was simple and I had a phone call ( in English) from
them within a few minutes, they then checked my co-oridinates on ‘Goggle Maps’ and
confirmed my basic details. In a few minutes an ‘E-Mail’ arrived which gives
you all the options to join, online!
Brian is coming around this evening and we are going to finish
all the online downloading of all the necessary documents/details etc, it will
then take a couple of weeks before they come along to install the new router and
connect to their ‘Fiber Optic’ system! After it’s all installed and working I
will then cancel the ‘ Movistar’ system and take it back to their office, down
in Sabinillas, with a ‘code-reference’ number, which you get from them, via the
‘English Hot-Line’!
All the information was given me to by our
friend Josie, who had done the same transfer a few weeks ago, she wrote all the
details down for us, in order to help - ‘ thanks’!
“ SIERRA BERMAJA “ ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON.
As it was such a lovely day, the sun was
out early and the sky was bright blue and cloudless, with a stiff but cooling
breeze, he suggested we go for a drive in his new car, a ‘Seat Ibiza’ So we set
off to go up to the top of the ‘ Sierra Bermeja ‘ mountain, at 1449 meters, or
4753 feet, the highest in the area, opposite the village in the next valley,
behind Estepona.
After a little difficulty finding the start
of the road in Estepona, we set off up one of the best and most spectacular roads,
over 15 kms of countless hair-pin bends with vast drops through the dark and
very thick ‘Fir-Tree’ ( Pinsapos ) forests, as the views back down to coast unfolded, during
the summer there is very well know ‘Hill-Climb Time Trial’ up the same route!
Brian put the car in ‘ Sports Mode’ – as our
heads shot back into the headrests! At the main junction near the top, you turn
off to the left onto a single-track steep ‘ road’ with just a few small passing
spots, over another 4 kms, to the reach the ‘ Mirador’ below the summit, which
is then reached by a steep scramble up and over the rocks!( no we didn’t!)
See below;
We then had a rather special surprise as we
found the mountain top ‘ Venta El Refugio – The Shelter ’ open! We had a very ‘warm’
welcome from the family run ‘Venta’ - as well as the roaring open wood fire, in
the grey stone old building, with no electricity! They have old fashioned ‘Miners
Table’ lamps for when it gets dark, the views from the large window’s are to
die for!
Our drinks arrived in small/local glasses
for Brenda & Brian ( one only!) while I had my usual in a large glass! The ‘Menu’
came along with lots of ‘ Specials of the Day’ – which we chose from – to start
a ‘Local Tomato, Red Onion and Mixed Berry Platter with Homemade Balsamic
Vinegar ’ to share, which was delicious, Brenda choose the Homemade ‘
Albondigas- Meatballs in a Crushed Almond Salsa’ Brian and I had the ‘ House’ –
“ Jabali Estofado – Wild Boar Stew “ – all served on fresh ‘ Patas Fritas ‘!! It
was memorable to say the least, all very tasty and succulent, I then was in ‘
heaven’ as I chose from the ‘Homemade’ sweets on show, a large slice of their ‘
Vanilla Cream Slice ‘ – which was extremely good! ‘House Shots’ finished our
surprise lunch, at around 4-00 pm!
See below;
It was then time to head off back down, at
great speed, leaving all the motorcyclists in our wake, on one of the ‘Top Ten’
greatest drives, to Estepona, a memorable afternoon out with a dear friend and
on a spectacular day ‘Thanks’ Brian!
Thoughts for the Day ; See above.
