A VERY ' SHARPE & FRESH' SUNNY MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY.

WEDNESDAY 6th/ NOVEMBER 2019.

We had a nice lie in this morning as we have no guests with us in ‘ Doggy World Heaven’ at the moment, the village was also very quiet, at the same time, after freshening up I put the gas bottle out to be exchanged by the delivery man later, we then had our breakfast, a ‘Toasted  Smoked Back Bacon Butty’ – smothered in ‘HP’ Brown sauce, for me, and open on brown toast for Brenda, with some sliced cooked ‘ Pork’ sausage on the side, with mugs of strong tea, to get another day on the go!

The sun broke through earlier this morning and the sky is cloudless and blue, there is a light, cool, breeze, so by lunchtime it’s only going to reach 18/18 degs+ - you now need a ‘Woolie’ on your shoulders, over the next few days and into the weekend it’s staying the same, up to 21 degs+ on Sunday, overnight dropping down to a cooler than normal, 10/11 degs mark, ‘ Duvet’+ time! The breeze is going a little stiffer & cool, as we go into next week, which is forecast to be a little ‘ Windy & Wet’- with moderate to heavy rain possible, a few clouds hanging around, as the sunshine breaks through on occasions, watch this space.

Going back to a old memory of Liverpool in the late 60s, when I was the Manager of the famous ‘ Stork Hotel’ in Queens Square, opposite the ‘Royal Court Theatre’ I watched, everyday, from the front steps, as the then ‘ St John’s Beacon’ now the ‘Radio City Tower’ was being built, using the slip-formed concrete continuous system, the Hotel was asked by the builders to supply the ‘ Topping-Off ‘ celebrations, so I set off, with a ‘Hard - Hat’ on, in my Black Pin Stripes etc, in the then open builders cage lift! ( around 1968)

I served, with the help of two of our ‘Greek’ waiters, ‘Moet Chandon’ Champagne with assorted ‘Canapes’ for the invited civic guests and draft ‘ Watneys Red Barrel’ with Sausage rolls for the ‘ workers’! The wind got up and we had to pour the champagne under the table, one glass at the time, then hand it out, using trays was not possible, the draft beer had to be pulled holding the old fashioned beer mugs, nearly horizontally, to get some beer in the glasses!

It was officially opened in 1969 by Queen Elizabeth 11 – in 1970 we went with friends to the revolving restaurant, which is now the studios for ‘Radio City, Magic & City Talk’  “ Happy Memories of Times Past “

See below;

For our supper this evening we are having an old favourite “ Chicken Schnitzels “ – using ‘Escalopes of Chicken Breast’ – dipped in flour, egg-wash and breadcrumbs from the local Bakery, shallow fried in Vegetable Oil, until crisp & golden, then topped with a ‘ Campo’ Fried Egg & Anchovy Fillets and Capers – “ Holstein “ style –  accompanied with lots of Lemon Wedges, served with finely sliced ‘ French’ green Beans and ‘ Spaghetti Milanese’ – tossed in a Tomato Salsa with stripes of Smoked Ham.  ‘ Food of the Gods ‘

We are taking things easy for the rest of the day, relaxing, doing nothing, because we can, later channel hopping to find something to watch, last night we caught the final episode of the very gripping ‘ Dublin Murders’ as the full tale was solved, all the loose ends came together, with lots of surprises, a shooting and the ‘murderers’ revealed, as well as the main characters ending up in separate places!

The New ‘ Rick Stein’s Secret France’ showed him in his own car ( a Silver Porsche Cayenne ) as he explored towns and villages away from the main routes, for the best gastronomic secrets of France, the first dish that he ate, in Dieppe, the fishing port on the coast of Normandy, was Turbot, straight off the boats!

A VERY WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON TUESDAY.

TUESDAY 5th/ SEPTEMBER 2017.

We had a nice lie in this morning before the delivery men arrived down our street taking goods to our local shop, after freshening up we had our normal light breakfast of ‘ Weetabix’ toast & tea, this afternoon we have our appointments with the replacement Chiropodist down at the surgery, otherwise we are taking things very easy after all the celebrations over the weekend.

This morning one of our regular Pension transfers arrived in our Spanish bank account, one day late, this is because the ‘ International Pensions ‘ Payments Section has a ‘USA’ Bank account(?) and it was a ‘ Bank Holiday’ – ‘Labour Day ‘ over in America, yesterday morning we had arranged another transfer, of monthly/annual annuities, from our ‘UK’ bank account in Colwyn Bay, we have an international private banker ‘hot line’ – that transfer arrived in a couple of hours, both were at the lowest exchange rate in 8 years, the Euro v Pound is at basically 1 for 1!

Tomorrow morning I’m going down to our bank in Sabinillas to arrange transfers between accounts, at the same time I will call into the ‘ Movistar’ shop and check out the contact arrangements for the ‘ Fiber Optic’ system installation, watch this space.

We have another glorious day down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol ‘ – the sun broke through earlier and the sky is clear & blue, the breeze has dropped and we are in for a hot & sunny day, by this afternoon it will be 27/28 degs, the rest of the week and over the weekend it’s going to be a little hotter, watch this space.

See below a picture of more progress on the new ' Estepona Hospital ' site;

Last night we watched, for a change, the ‘World Cup ‘ Qualifying football from Wembley as England beat Slovakia 2-1, this evening Spain are in Liechtenstein, meanwhile here in the ‘ Vuelta a Espana 17 ‘ after the rest day it’s the Individual Time Trial around LogroƱo, Chris Froome is expected to make more time on his rivals, as he’s one of the best Time Trialists in the World, then over the next 4 days, before the finish in Madrid on Sunday, they are all mountain stages with the stiffest on Saturday! Watch this space.

Yesterday evening we had a nice long catch up/chat with Sandra & Bill over in Everett, Ontario, Canada, they are starting to get ready for their trip to Spain at the end of the month, we can’t wait to meet them and show them around  the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ & Andalusia, they are still in ‘BBQ’ mode over there as the weather is still good, they had a lot of old work friends around over the weekend, they have also been out & about to see friends in ‘ Grand Bend’ on Lake Huron, the other day they went to ‘Tobermory’ – the ‘Fresh Water ‘ Scuba’ Diving Capital of the World’ –  as there are multiple shipwreck dive sites in the clear green water on Lake Huron!

As in America, all over Canada, there are town/city names from all over the World, close to them is London & Paris! There is even a Liverpool in ‘Nova Scotia’ on the Atlantic Ocean!! ( and one in New York!)

A VERY HOT & SUNNY MANILVA ON SUNDAY.

SUNDAY 4th / JUNE 2017.

We had a nice lie in this morning after all the excitement of yesterday, we were up just before the church bells started calling the faithful, after freshening up we had breakfast, fresh Orange Juice, ‘Crispy Smoked Bacon Butties’ & mugs of hot tea. We are taking things for the day, catching up with the chores and then relaxing, doing nothing, because we can!

‘Reina’ is due back with us on Monday morning, for her usual five days, next week, no doubt ‘ Chispa’ will be in & out as normal. Brenda has an appointment  down at the surgery with the nurse, first thing in the morning, for her blood tests etc, I will see our Doctor, Natalia, on Wednesday morning, before her appointments, for a quick check-up/review, on Friday morning I will be out on my travels down in Sabinillas for the weekly shopping. No other plans at the moment, watch this space!

The sun was out early and the sky is blue and there is just a little breeze, making it rather pleasant, it’s due to reach 27 degs this afternoon, next week is getting even better, 29/30 degs – 17/19 during the night, last night there was a spectacular red sunset over the village, see below.

For our supper this evening we are having ‘ Grilled Fillet Steaks ‘ cooked on a very hot griddle plate ‘ Med-Rare ‘ – then left to rest, garnished with seared Aspargus Spears, Button Mushrooms & deep-fried Onion Rings, whole  Green Beans and of course twice-cooked ‘ Chips’ –  ‘Bearnaise’ sauce on the side.

Just a quick update on last night’s result as brilliant Real Madrid defeated Juventus to retain the ‘ Champions League ‘ 1-4 at the ‘Millennium Stadium ‘ in Cardiff. Real were unstoppable, Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice. The village went ‘ MAD ‘ !

See above the Blog & pictures of our travels out & about in a very hot ‘ Alhaurin El Grande with our dear friend Joyce ‘ Baby ‘ yesterday.

PS;  On ‘ Castle Radio FM 89.2 & Online on the ‘ WWW’ at the moment the “ Pete Black Retro Road Show “ request show is back on air ‘Live’ from his studio in ‘Puerto de la Duquesa ‘ He has just played for ‘ Sir ‘ Malcolm & ‘ Lady’ Brenda – “ Shine on Me ‘ by Dan Auerbach, a ‘ Helluva ‘ track!!

A WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON MONDAY AT THE START OF THE WEEK;

MONDAY 23rd/ MAY 2016.

We were up early this morning as little princess ‘ Reina’ was being dropped off for the day, she’s with us everyday this week up to and including Friday, ’Chispa’ comes calling in all the time at different times of the day. After freshening up we had our breakfast before sorting the week ahead out, we have no plans at the moment, on Thursday afternoon Brenda has her second appointment with the ‘Private Physiotherapist’- then on Friday she’s coming down to Sabinillas with me for the weekly shopping, her first trip out for nearly three months!

On the menu front this week we are having cold cuts of ‘Smoked Chicken & Beef’ with a Mixed Salad this evening, on Tuesday its going to be a ‘soft’ Mixed Grill ( Sausages, Bacon, Mushroom, Tomato etc) and then Wednesday I’m making a ‘Chicken & Mushroom Tarragon Casserole’ – Thursday is TBC, Friday is ‘ Fish night’ and Saturday is our regular ‘ Steak night’

We have another fine day down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ to start the week ahead, the sun was out early and there is a clear blue sky and just a little breeze, perfect for this time of the year, its getting a little warmer as the week goes on, the night time temperatures are also raising slowly. See the picture below of the ' Moscatel' Grapes starting to grow.

Last night after supper we watched the ‘ Copa del Rey Final’ from Madrid as Barcelona played Sevilla in what turned out to be a particular feisty game, lots of Yellow Cards to both sides as well three Red Cards! It went to extra time were Barcelona scored two goals both made by Messi and won 2-0 – a typical ‘Spanish’ match with lots of diving, feigning injury, shouting, eyes glaring and swearing from both sides! Next it will be more of the same as Real Madrid play Atl.Madrid in the ‘ Champions League Final’ in Milan at the weekend!!

This morning after typing and posting the Blog I’m working on the play list for the another show as this weeks is ready from last Saturdays cancelled show on ‘Castle Radio FM 89.2 & Online on the WWW’ Don’t forget to listen and keep the request coming in, on this week show ‘ Sir Malcolm’s Classic Show’ I’m playing a track for Brian & Jan ( Charlie’s parents!) – its called ‘I’m in the Jail House Now’ by the ‘ Soggy Bottom Boys’!!

                                                                                                                   See the new logo!
