I was up early this morning to welcome
little ‘ Princess’ ‘Reina’ back with us for the day, we then all had another
lie in as last night was another hot one and we didn’t get much sleep, after
freshening up we had our breakfast of fresh fruit (Nectarines ) toast &
tea, it’s an at home day today taking things easy.
The sun was out first thing and the ‘
Lavente’ breeze has dropped making it warm right from the start, by lunchtime
its due to reach 38 degs+! Back to normal for this time of the year, the rest
of week is also going to be very hot & sunny and over the weekend and into
next week it’s more of the same!
See the picture below taken at the same
time last year of sunny Manilva, spot the difference? It’s all the trees along
the left side of ‘ Calle Mar’ that have been cut, for many years, ‘ Pollard’
style by the old Council, the new Council are refusing to cut them, I have asked
over the past 10 months, six Councillors on numerous occasions and called into
the Mayor’s office, to complain, with no joy, while I was in the office the two
trees in front of the Town Hall opposite the Mayor’s window were being cut ‘
Pollard’ style by the Council workmen!! Meanwhile down in ‘ Castillo de la Duquesa
& Puerto Duquesa’ they are maintained and the surrounding border stone are painted
white!
I’ve been told (off the record) that the
reason that they are not planning to ‘Pollard’ the trees is that there are
plans to make ‘ Calle Mar ‘ a pedestrian free zone sometime next year?!! I
wonder what the village and all the locals along Calle Mar, the side streets and
of course the six ‘Bars’ think? At this time of the year with all the tourists
around the village is not looking at its best as the trees are overgrown, ( see below ) I
made this point back in March with no response!! Its a maximum job for the
Council workmen of just two days, watch this space!! “ Rant Over
“ !!
For our supper this evening we are having
plain ‘Grilled Pork Burgers’ topped with
Smoked Bacon & garnished with ‘ French Fried Onion Rings’ ( Milk &
Flour ) and Sautéed Baby Mushrooms, Brenda’s will have a slice of ‘Gouda’ Cheese,
as well and mine will be topped with a ‘ Campo Fried Egg! Twice-cooked homemade
‘ Frits’ on the side and ‘ Heinz Tomato Ketchup’ of course!
Last night after supper we settled down to
watch the last day of the ‘ Track Cycling’ from the Velodrome in Rio; as I
forecast Laura Trott became the first British woman to win four Olympic Gold Medals
by retaining her ‘ Omnium ‘ title, then Jason Kenny equalled Sir Chris Hoy’s
record of six Olympic Gold Medals on a sensational night in Rio as he won a
dramatic ‘ Kerin’ final that had to be twice restarted because of
infringements!
At the same time Great Britain’s Becky
James won the Silver Medal and Katy Marchant the Bronze Medal in the Woman’s
Sprint, the next generation of young riders for the next Olympics in Tokyo in
2020!!
Thoughts for the Day; See above.
