MANILVA OVER THE WEEKEND.

FRIDAY 15th JUNE 2012.

After out tea and toast we went down to Sabinillas to do some shopping; we then went for a walk when we got back and picked up from our butchers in the village two very good looking Entrecote steaks for Saturday nights dinner. The weather forecast for over the weekend and into next week is more of the same and getting hotter; Brenda is out on the roof terrace every afternoon but keeps under the shade most of the time as she reads the papers and her book. In the evening we watched the first game over in Poland/Ukraine – it kicked off over an hour late as there was a torrential rain and lightening storm over Donetsk – France beat the Ukraine 2-0.We then had our supper of Fillet of Hake with New Potatoes and Garden Peas before we caught the England v Sweden match in Kiev after it also started a little late due to rain ! Danny Welbeck hit a cleaver winner as England came from behind to beat Sweden for the first time in a competitive fixture; Andy Carroll’s superb header allowed England to establish comfortable control but poor defending allowed Sweden to score twice! Theo Walcott came on as a substitute and scored a cracking equalizer – the final game in the group stage is against the Ukraine, they only need to draw to progress to the quarter final stages, where Spain should be waiting for them !! Now that is one to watch out for. The late film was “ The Patriot ” from 2000 starring Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger who sadly died in 2008 from an accidental overdose. The film is a fictional historical war drama taking place in the ‘ American Revolutionary War ’ back in the 1770s.It also starred Jason Isaacs as the ‘ Baddie ’ and Joely Richardson and Tom Wilkinson – it attracted controversy for its numerous historical inaccuracies but is a good tale and worth watching.
