We had another nice lie in this morning
until ‘Sunny’ came up and let us know that it was time to take her out, she had
slept all night downstairs on the settees, after freshening up Brenda took her
out for her first walk of the day, around the bottom of the village, at
lunchtime little ‘ Paddy’ is being dropped off for a one night’s sleep-over, ‘ Chispa’ has also ‘crashed’ in to
see her friends earlier this morning.
Meanwhile back at the house, as I was on
the breakfast rota, I prepared my famous ‘ Toasted Crispy Smoked Bacon Butty’
for myself, smothered in ‘HP’ Brown sauce, open on brown for Brenda, with some
sliced Baby Mushrooms, sautéed in the bacon juices with a knob of butter, some
of which made it onto my Butty! Not forgetting the mugs of steaming tea!!
We have another glorious day down here on
the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ – the sun was out early and the sky is bright blue &
cloudless, there is a very slight breeze, so by lunchtime it’s going to reach
22 degs, again, with warm sunshine, on Monday at the start of the week it’s
going a little warmer, then up to 24/25 degs+ over the next few days, despite
the breeze picking up a little, overnight only down to 15/16 degs, both warm
for the time of the year, then next weekend as a new cold ‘ Atlantic’ front
comes in, it’s dropping back down to the low 20s, with the threat of the ‘
Wet-Stuff ‘ back in the air, since last February we have had in total only two
days of rain! Watch this space.
Just a quick update on the football
results; Manchester City won 3-0 and sadly Everton gave away a 1-2 lead to be
beaten 3-2 by Brighton.
At the moment Wales are losing 6-9 at
half-time to South Africa is a very boring game, with the injuries mounting up
to their key players, over in Japan, at the ‘ Rugby World Cup’
See below a picture of the historic ‘ Royal
Insurance Building’ ( now ' The Aloft Liverpool Hotel ' ) - situated at 1-9 North John Street, Liverpool, on the
corner, next to the Town Hall, the building was constructed around a steel
frame, back in the late 1800s and is the earliest example of this type of construction
in the UK.
My first job, was working in the kitchens,
in the basement, as a ‘ Commis Chef ‘ – at the age of sixteen, the ‘Head Chef’ was an old fashioned ‘ White
La Torque’ (Hat) wearing ‘Chef Du Cuisine’
– from a ‘French/Liverpool’ family, the ‘
Torque’ was pleated, with the number of vertical pleats – traditionally- being
exactly 100 – the number of ways he knew how to prepare Eggs! ( or his level of
experience!! )
At lunchtime, only, we served over a 1000
staff, in three dining rooms, one for the general staff, one for the ‘ Managers’
and one for the ‘ Directors’ – my first ‘ taste’ of the heat of the kitchens! “
Happy Memories & Times “
For our supper this evening we are having
my now famous ‘ Smoked Chicken & Three Green Bean Risotto’ - made with ‘Spanish Alborio ‘ Rice from
Valencia, cooked ‘ A La Carte’ style, to order, as the finely diced Shallots
are sweated off with a little crushed Garlic and a good slug of White Wine, before
adding the rice and steering in, slowly, the rich Chicken & Vegetables
stock, then adding the diced pre-cooked ‘Smoked
Chicken’ and the cooked ‘ Three Beans’ – adjusting the seasoning and taste
before the Parmesan & chopped Parsley! Garnished with Asparagus Spears!
After supper we will be channel hopping to
find something to watch.
Thoughts for the Day; See above.
