THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM A CRISP & SUNNY MANILVA;

....

A FRESH & BREEZY SUNNY MANILVA ON THURSDAY.

THURSDAY 31st/ OCTOBER 2019.    “ HALLOWEEN “

I was up very early this morning and after a quick freshen up I shot off on my travels, first down to Sabinillas, I called into ‘ ItZabar’ for my regular toast & tea, before shooting along to the ‘newish’ Mercadona – along the coast road before Estepona, for our weekly shopping, it was very busy as people stocked up for the ‘Bank Holiday ‘ weekend.

I then came back to the ‘ English Bookshop’ in Sabinillas for the local newspapers, before dropping down to the ‘Puerto de la Duquesa Marina’ to call into the ‘English Butchers’ for a  “ Leg of English Lamb’ for our Sunday ‘ Roast’ – after unpacking back at the house I was lucky and found a spot to park the car on the road-side in front of the ‘Wine Museum/ Theatre and Fire Station’

Brenda had a little lie in before taking ‘ Sunny’ out for her first walk of the day, around the bottom of the village, She is due to be collected on Sunday, ( ‘Sunny’ not Brenda!)  - on next Monday/Tuesday little ‘ Miss Bella’ is back with us in ‘ Doggy World Heaven’

This morning the sun was breaking though, above the Mediterranean, as I came down through the vine fields, there is a light breeze and a few patchy clouds hanging around, the sky was blue, by lunchtime it’s forecast to reach 26 degs+ - the same tomorrow.

Then over the weekend as the cold/wet ‘Atlantic’ front comes in, it’s going colder, down to 20/21 degs, on Saturday/Sunday, with heavy rain, for the first time in nearly 10 months!  Next week is now looking like we are in for more of the same, even going a little cooler, hovering in the low ‘ teens’ – by next Saturday down to 15 degs!  - overnight next week down to 14/15 degs and by next weekend as low as 9 degs!! Watch this space.

Yesterday evening over in Llandudno, North Wales, they had a spectacular ‘ Fire Works Display’ – from barges, in front of the promenade, lighting the sky above the bay & town!

See below;

For our supper this evening we are having ‘ Pie & Chips’ – using the rest of the  “ Chicken & Mushroom ‘Tarragon’ Pie “ with a small selection of Vegetables and triple-cooked ‘ Chips’  On Friday it’s going to be a ‘ Fish Supper’ and then on Saturday it’s our usual ‘ Steak Night’ with ‘Fillet Steaks’ – on Sunday we are having the ‘ Roast Leg of English Lamb’ with all the trimmings, resting on my classic ‘ Boulangere’ Potatoes, or as they are know by Sandra & Bill, over in Everett, Ontario, Canada “ Malcolm’s Potatoes “!!

Yesterday evening we caught the first episode ( three more to follow) of a stylish contemporary drama, with a strong vein of black humour, set in and around Edinburgh, “ Guilt “ – about two brothers who become accidental murderers, as the they drive home after a wedding, starring Mark Bonner & Jamie Silva, one to watch!

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

...

A VERY CALM & WARM SUNNY MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY.

WEDNESDAY 30th/ OCTOBER 2019.

Just a little lie in this morning, as we were freshening up we were listening to the ‘ Andrew Charles Breakfast Show’ on “ Castle Radio FM 89.2 & Online on the WWW “ as the ‘ Music Quiz’ came back on, it was a six second opening ‘ Riff’ which ‘ Lady’ Brenda got straight away before, he gave the cryptic clues,  it was ‘The Beatles ‘ with ‘ I Feel Fine’ – so she is in the draw, again, on Friday morning!

I will not be out on my travels on Friday morning, as usual as it’s a ‘National Bank Holiday’ – for “ Dia de Todos los Santos – All Saints’ Day “ I’m going tomorrow morning instead, for our weekly shopping.

Brenda then took ‘ Sunny out for her first walk of the day, around the bottom of the village, she’s settled in very well and is into our routine, she has a good appetite and is very friendly & loving, she is sleeping all night downstairs on the settees, she then lets us know when it’s time to go out! We are going to miss her on Sunday, when she is due to be picked up by Simone, she is back with us in ‘ Doggy World Heaven’ at the start of December for a short holiday.

We then had our normal light breakfast of ‘ Weetabix’ with sliced banana, for me, brown toast & sliced banana for Brenda, with mugs of strong tea.

I then got this evenings supper on the go, with the help of the ‘ Second Chef’ – a “ Chicken & Mushroom ‘ Tarragon’ Pie “ – the diced breast, leg & thigh are dusted in seasoned flour( Salt & Pepper & Tarragon)  and lightly browned-off, I, at the same time, sweat-off the finely diced Onions, Shallots & Garlic, with lots of Tarragon Herbs, in a good ‘ slug’ of White Wine, adding a dash of ‘ Lea & Perrins & Tabasco’ and ‘Tomato Frito’ – before adding the finely diced Carrots, Leeks & Celery, along with Baby Mushrooms( tinned) with Garden Peas & chopped Parsley, the Chicken is then added with a rich ‘ Chicken & Vegetable’ stock, the seasoning and consistency is adjusted, then it’s left to cook-off under the eye of the ‘ Second Chef’ – before pouring it into a large Casserole Dish, with a upturned ‘Egg Cup’ in the middle, this evening I will roll-out the ‘Puff Pastry ‘ ( Ready-Made) and decorate the top, before brushing with Egg wash, to go in the oven to bake and finish cooking. Served with Glazed Carrot Batons & whole ‘ French’ Green Beans and ‘ Pommes de Terre Rissolees ‘ – Baby New Potatoes, in their skins, tossed in foaming Parsley Butter, until crisp & golden!

The sun was out first thing this morning, there is a light breeze, clearing the patchy clouds away, so by lunchtime it will reach 26 degs+ going up to 27 degs+ by Friday, staying overnight up at 17/18 degs, then on Saturday, as the cold & windy ‘ Atlantic’ front comes in, it’s going to drop back down to 20 degs, by Sunday, with the ‘Wet-Stuff’ in the air, next week is now looking mainly wet, with patchy to moderate rain, staying  cold and unsettled, with lots of clouds hanging around, hovering on the 17/18 degs mark, overnight down to 11/12 degs – very unseasonal, the following week is forecast to be dry but colder, watch this space.

We are taking things very easy today, relaxing and basically doing nothing, because we can!

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

...

A GLORIOUS WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON TUESDAY.

TUESDAY 29th/ OCTOBER 2019.

We had another nice lie in this morning as the village is very quiet, as the schools have re-opened after half-term, after freshening up Brenda took ‘Sunny ‘ out for her first walk of the day, last night on our last walk of the day, with her, we bumped into ‘ Big Brian & Andy’ having a late ‘ Tapas’ supper in ‘Bar Castillo’ – Brian has found a house in sunny Manilva, at the top of the village, with Andy’s help, the only problem being the parking, as usual, meanwhile in two weeks time, Andy is off back to Thailand for his months holiday, he has to change planes in Moscow!

As I was on the breakfast rota I had a ‘Toasted Smoked Bacon Butty’ – smothered in ‘ HP’ Brown sauce, open on brown for Brenda, with sliced Baby Mushrooms, sautéed in the bacon juices with a knob of butter, some of which ended up in my butty!  Mugs of strong/hot tea helped to wash them down!!

The ‘ Council’ had just announced the details about the closing of the underground car park ( 3 floors) below the Police station,  for the annual cleaning/maintenance, from tomorrow until the 15th November! Watch this space!!

PS; I’m parked on the road-side, in front of the Police station at the moment, I will have to spot a place, again, after my travels on Friday morning!

We have yet another glorious day down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol ‘ starting this morning, the sun was out early after a beautiful sunrise over the Mediterranean.

See below;

The sky is clearing, with a few patchy clouds hanging around, as there is a light breeze coming up ( Levante) so by lunchtime the sky will be bright blue, like yesterday, it’s due to reach 25 degs+! Over the next few days it’s staying the same, even going a little warmer, over night only going down to 16/17degs+ - unseasonally warm for the time of the year, then on Sunday, as the cold ‘Atlantic ‘front come in, it’s going to drop down to 17/18 degs with the threat of the ‘ Wet-Stuff’ back in the air, next week is staying the same, even going a little colder at times, overnight as low as 12/13 degs!! Watch this space.

This evening for our supper we are having ‘ Grilled Gammon Steaks ‘ – topped with seared Pineapple Rings and a ‘ Campo’ Fried Egg, served with Broccoli Florets & Garden Peas, not forgetting the triple-cooked ‘ Chips’

Tomorrow I’m going to make my now famous “ Chicken & Mushroom ‘Tarragon’ Pie “ with a crusty Puff-Pastry!

Yesterday afternoon/evening we caught up with the ‘Quiz Shows’ that we follow; ‘ Tenable, Tipping Point, The Chase, Only Connect & University Challenge’ – after supper we caught the next gripping episode of “ Dublin Murders “ as the lady Detective went deep-under cover, it’s on again this evening! Watch this space.

PS; We just missed the 'Music Quiz' this morning, it's 'The Beatles'  but will catch it again tomorrow morning to get the six second opening 'Riff' - watch this space.
