SATURDAY 8th/ AUGUST 2015.
We had a nice lie in this morning as the village is always quiet after all being down at the 'Feria' into the wee small hours! I put the gas bottle out and the delivery man came along a little later to exchange it,the price has dropped a bit,its controlled by the Government.
The 'Poached Egg Queen' was on fine form and produced two fine examples for me,the 'Campo Eggs' arrived fresh this morning - see the picture below!
We then planned our day ahead,Brenda is washing her hair and freshening up,I will catch up later; we are out this evening earlier than normal as the " Feria Queens" parade is starting at 5-30 pm, we are going up to 'Bar Rojas' for our 'Happy Hour' and I will post some pictures later. See above. We met Den & Josie who joined us for a cool drink.
Last night we had a very enjoyable night out on the town( village) for the staffs night off! We started as 'Bar Castillo' where we ended up sitting with Adrian & Rose with 'Scruffy' under the table, then our Irish friends Mick( Miguel) & Lllona came along with their two small children Lucas & Amelia, it was their 7th wedding anniversary. then some of their friends came along and joined the party!
We had a different Tapas to start,a small 'Pincho' of Smoked local Bacon topped with a fried Quails Egg - delicious! We then headed off back down to 'Bar Rojas' where Kieno was on fine form, he recommend for Brenda a fillet of 'Rosado A La Plancha' cooked in a Parsley & Garlic Olive Oil dressing, she had a nice Tomato & Onion Salad on the side, she really enjoyed it,she was looking forward to her fish supper!
I had my currant favourite of the 'Burger Steak' with fried Green Peppers, the house homemade 'Frits' and not forgetting a 'Campo' Soft Fried Egg; - perfect! We sat and watched the 'World' - well suuny Manilva - go by as they all headed off down to the 'Feria Ground'down in the valley.
When we return this evening we are having for our supper, once again, 'Entrecote Minute Steak' - I trim the steaks 'French Style' and then gently flatten them, they are cooked on a very hot griddle plate 'Med-Rare' with on the side some sauteed Baby Mushrooms,we are having them with a Mixed Salad and a Dry Baked Potato and lots of Dijon Mustard! Sometimes I smear the steaks with the mustard - a 'poor mans' " Steak Diane"! See below - taken with my Mobile phone!
Tomorrows menu has a 'Rice' theme as we are going up to 'Bar Castillo' at lunchtime for Paqui's famous Paella and then in the evening for our supper I'm making my famous " Smoked Chicken & Broad Bean Risotto"!
This evening I will also watch all the highlights of the start of the 'Premier League' Football over in the UK,next weekend its the turn of the 'La Liga' to kick off; oh and yes England winning the ' Ashes' later this morning!! ENGLAND HAVE JUST WON !!
In the picture below you can see 'Madame Bollinger' riding her famous bicycle through the vine fields outside the village of 'Ay' in the heart of the Champagne region, when were were guests of the family we saw the old bike still standing in the hall way in her memory!!
