Well we had
a “Helluva” Saturday evening/Sunday morning to get us in the mood for the big
one today!
We settled
into a table opposite Bar Rojas and soon Gillian and Josie came along and
joined us, then another friend Lilimor as we took in the sights, sounds and
smells (BBQ Octopus!)
The Mass
was on the top stage outside the old Town Hall and afterwards the procession
and Tableau went down to the church and then came back up to Calle Mar where on
the stage they collected the Grapes for today’s pressing and had the compertion
for the largest and best bunch ! Our friend and Big Bri’s mate Jesus won!! See
the second set of pictures.
Then the
parade starts again and comes along Calle Mar past Bar Rojas as you can see in
the first set of pictures; the Mayor was dressed in the local ‘Wine Peasants’
costume and was joined by all the village councilors and dignitaries ( I was
asked to join!) The councilors confirmed that I will be pressing the grapes
early this evening!
Then the
music starts with two bands alternating on the stages from 8-00pm until 4-00am
Sunday with the ‘Hip Hop’ music stage and ‘Big Brian’s’ favorite down at the
bottom of the village, for the younger members of the village goes on till
5-30am approx! We happened to start to dance in front of the whole village in
front of the main stage in front of the Town Hall at the top of our street and
ended up on our own with a big loud round of applause as we finished, even the
band “ Groupo Atidos ” joined in! The music is easy dancing,Latina ,Rumbas,
Pasodobles
and Pop!
We then
joined the crowds as they walk between the stages dancing and singing along to
the music; we had a short brake back in the house for a light snack of pan-
fried Chicken fillets on Bread to keep us going and we ended up later back at
Bar Rojas for a nightcap and more dancing! We departed for home at about 2-30am
and proceeded to have a small plate of Chicken Curry and Rice as by then we
were hungry!!
