FRIDAY
17th/ MAY 2013.
We managed
to beat the showers which had hit us during the night and then as the day went
on the sun broke through and it reached 21/23 but still with some light
showers, nothing like the forecast. It was shopping morning down in Sabinillas
and when we got back to the house Brenda went down to the local market for the
fresh flowers.
As I was
checking out the WWW news came in on Facebook that a very old friend over in
England had become a Grandfather for the first time; Allan and his wife
Glenys’s older son Mark and his wife Jenny had a baby boy ‘Jack Alan’ –
Congratulations to all!
After lunch
I retired to the office as Brenda watched the tennis from Rome downstairs on
TDP as Nadel played Ferrer in a hard fought win for Nadel; I tuned into the
‘Giro d’Italia to watch stage 13 from Busseto to Cherasco on the longest stage
over 254kms! It was forecast that a sprinter would win as the finish was flat
and straight but there was a stiff climb in the last 50kms – the race went
through the wine region and town of Barolo to the sprint finish – Mark
Cavendish won again, his fourth win in this year’s tour and the second on the
trot! As he crossed the line he collapsed at the side of the road as he had to
sprint longer and harder than normal to win – 350ms instead of the usual 200ms
after a climb! The next two stages are in the Alps over some classic climbs,
weather permitting as they have had heavy snow and are clearing the roads as I
‘am tying this!
In the
evening for supper we had our ‘Manilva style – Fish and Chips’ – fresh local
Hake coated in ‘Cruz Campo’ batter with square chips ‘Bachelors’ Mushy Peas and
homemade Tartar sauce – as you can see in the picture below!
It was then
time to watch on TVE1 the final of the ‘Copa del Rey’ between Atl.Madrid and
Real Madrid – Atl.Madrid won 2-1 after a typical hard fought( Literally) game
as Jose Mourinho and then Christiano Ronaldo were sent off!
Thought for
the Day;
Being
honest may not get you many friends, but it’ll always get you the right ones.
