SATURDAY 18th/
MAY 2013.
After a
nice lie in and our tea and toast I was watching on the smaller PC ‘Saturday
Morning Kitchen’ when on the larger PC the Skype video came online from
Melbourne – it was in the evening over there and Jack and Lyn had some of the
family with them for dinner; Jeff and Annette are over from Kuala Lumpur for a
couple of weeks on business and judging a ‘ Barista’ competition and Debs and
her husband Dornach had also called in, so we were able to chat to them all and
have a good catch up!
The weather
is picking up over the weekend so we should be back to normal by Monday; this
afternoon I will be watching the ‘Giro d’Italai’ stage 14 from Cevere to
Bardonecchai over 168kms – hopefully – weather permitting as they have had
fresh falls of snow in the Alps; the two big climbs today are ‘Sestriere’ and
then up to the finish over the ‘Jefferay’ They have just cancelled the 'Sestriere' climb due to the danger of Avalanches! The route is now 12kms longer.Sadly the live coverage is also being effected at the moment as well! The news has just come in also that the two big climbs tomorrow on stage 15 have also been cancelled over the 'Col Du Cenis'( 2094m) and the legendary 'Col Du Galibier'(2642m) with a new route being sorted out!
PS; Todays stage was won by Mauro Santamprogio as he came out of the mist - no TV coverage was possible - the surprise of the day was that the leader of the tour Vincenzo Nibali finished second to extend his Giro d'Italia lead over his rivals when he attacked on the climb to the finish on the 'Jefferay' and left them behind!
So this afternoon it is the semi finals of the Tennis in Rome so Brenda will watch it later and at the moment it is the qualifying of the French Motor GP from ‘Le Mans Nadel plays Federer in the final on Sunday.
We then watched a very good film that we had not seen before; The award winning" Out of Africa " from 1985 with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford, with Klaus Maria Brandauer,Micheal Kitchen and the Somali model Iman who later married David Bowie!!

This
evening for dinner we are having ‘Steak and Chips’ with all the usual trimmings
before we settle down to watch a film - not the " Eurovision Song Contest " ! -- Denmark won !!
Thought for
the Day;
He that
stays in the Valley, shall never get over the Hill.
