A VERY WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON TUESDAY.

TUESDAY 24^th/ SEPTEMBER 2019. 

“ MALCOLM’S 74th/ BIRTHDAY “!  1945-2019!!

I was up very early this morning to welcome back little’ Miss Bella’ for the day, she shot upstairs and joined ‘ Chico’ who had slept all night on the marble floor, they then played a little before relaxing, as we had a further lie in, listening to the ‘ Andrew Charles Breakfast Show’ on “ Castle Radio FM 89.2 & Online on the WWW” – ‘Lady’ Brenda had sent him a birthday request, so he played for ‘ Sir’ Malcolm “ Happy Birthday’ and then a track from ‘The Dennisons ‘ ( my old school friends) from back in the late 60s, as I was ‘Horizontal ‘ dancing in bed!

Brenda took both the dogs out for their first walk of the day, while back at the house I prepared our ‘Cooked Breakfast Fry-Up’ – ‘Crispy Smoked Bacon, seared Baby Mushrooms & Plum Tomato, with of course Campo Fried Eggs’ – with lots of buttered toast and mugs of strong ‘ PG’ Tips Tea, to start the day in the right direction.

At lunchtime we are going out for a nice ‘ Birthday’ drink, with both of the dogs, after we find a local Bar open! Watch this space.

This morning the sun was out early and the sky was clear & blue, with not a breath of air, by lunchtime it’s due to reach 29 degs+ - rising to 30 degs+ by tomorrow, hovering on the 18/19 degs during night time, then over the weekend it’s going a little cooler, as the breeze picks up a little, back down to 25 degs just in time for the arrival of our Canadian family on Sunday ( 29^th) Next week is looking dry, warm & sunny, for their week’s stay, as the breeze drop going back up to 29 degs+ by next Tuesday, over night still hovering on the 18 degs+ mark, with just a small chance of the ‘Wet-Stuff’ on the Thursday, watch this space.

“ Countdown 6 Days “

For our supper this evening we are having “ Grilled Medallions of Pork Fillet ‘ cooked on a very hot griddle-plate, garnished with seared Button Mushrooms, accompanied with a sauce boat of a creamy ‘Green Peppercorn’ sauce,  served with glazed Carrot Batons & whole ‘ French’ Green Beans, along with a dish of my favourite ‘ Lyonnaise’ potatoes,  sliced Boiled Potatoes & thinly sliced Onions, sautéed in Parsley butter!  

Earlier this morning I went around to our local Butchers in ‘Calle Iglasia’- which is still in mess, as the ‘Contractor’s’ are still laying the various stone flagging ( 10% finished!) I picked up some of his excellent Diced Beef ( cut to order ) for tomorrow’s ‘ Beef & Mushroom Curry ‘ as well as ‘Chicken Wings & Hamburgers’ ( 3 sorts ) for another day.

This evening we will have a nice drink, or two, to celebrate my birthday, as we are planning to celebrate it in the right fashion, when the ‘ Canadian Clan’ are here! Watch this space.

A VERY WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON SATURDAY. " BRENDA'S BIRTHDAY "

SATURDAY 22^nd/ JUNE 2019.    “ BRENDA’S 7-TH BIRTHDAY “ !

We had a nice lie in this morning after a busy week of early starts, after freshening up it was time for Brenda’s ‘Birthday’ Breakfast, freshly squeezed local Orange Juice for the ‘ Bucks Fizz Cava’ with ‘ Campo’ Scrambled Eggs on Toast, Brown for Brenda, topped with diced Smoked Salmon, the Scrambled Eggs are cooked in a hot pan with a knob of butter, after a rigorous stir with salt & pepper, a quick grating of Black Peppercorns over the top!

All Brenda’s birthday cards have gone up ( see below) - she has had text messages from Norah & Jenny, over in the UK, a ‘Skype’ video call from Tim & Thea over in Old Colwyn, North Wales and a ‘Facebook’ video message from Jane, in Northwich, Cheshire. This afternoon we have arranged a ‘ Skype’ video call with Sandra & Bill over in Everett, Ontario, Canada, on our ‘Facebook’ page she has had lots of ‘Likes’ and very nice messages from all over the World, from family, friends, locals here in sunny Manilva and ex-staff!

At lunchtime we are going along to ‘Cafeteria Nacho’ –Juan’s brother from ‘Bar Castillo’- as he’s closed for two weeks, for a nice cool drink, this evening we are then going down, by taxi, to one of our favourites “ Restaurante Maques “ overlooking the ‘ Puerto de la Duquesa Marina ‘ for Brenda’s ‘ Birthday Supper’ Watch this space.

We have a very pleasant day here in sunny Manilva, down on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ – the breeze has dropped and sun broke through earlier, the sky is blue & cloudless, by lunchtime it will be 25 degs+ just right, not too hot, tomorrow it will be a little warmer, next week is now looking like we are in for more of the same, hovering in the high 20s,  warm & sunny with just a few patchy clouds, at times, by next weekend going hotter, watch this space.

A VERY WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON THURSDAY;

THURSDAY 23^rd JUNE 2016.

A nice little lie in this was called for after last night’s celebrations, we then treated ourselves to ‘English Smoked Back Bacon Butties’ with a mug of steaming tea to get us going; I then went and collected the folks and dropped them down in Sabinillas, I called into our bank and then the ‘English Bookshop’ for the local newspapers and finally picked up a couple of light bulbs from the ‘Ferreteria’s’ When I got back to the house I went along to the Chemists in ‘ Calle Mar’ for some of my tablets.

We are taking things easy for the day and catching up with the chores around the house, this evening the folks are joining us for a nice chilled glass of Cava and to see all the pictures on the Blog, we are then going out for our ‘ last supper’ to ‘ Venta la Choza’ Watch this space.

Its yet another glorious day down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’- from early this morning the sun was out and the sky was bright blue, the breeze has dropped and by lunchtime its going to be hot, more of the same to come over the weekend, sadly the folks are going home tomorrow evening to heavy rain & storms – sorry!

Down in Sabinillas they are all ready for tonight’s festivities as its the ‘ Noche de St Juan’ down on the beach, its the ‘fire’ festival when the tableau (this year its TV Cartoon’ characters) - is burnt at midnight and then a large fireworks display follows, there is a large & loud ‘Rumba Show Band’ playing on the stage along with lots of drinking and singing until day light! Its a local ‘ Bank Holiday’ in the village tomorrow!! We took the folks down three years ago when they were last here for Brenda’s birthday so we are giving it a miss tonight! Last night we went down to ‘Puerto de la Duquesa’ for her ‘ Birthday Bash’ to our favourite ‘ celebration’ restaurant “ Restaurante Macues “ where as usual we had a memorable meal looked after by the very attentive staff, I was also very lucky as a parking spot came free right by the entrance to the main square just as we arrived, to drink I chose the ‘House Red & White Rioja’s’

Brenda ordered the ‘ Entrecote Cafe de Paris ‘ for a change, the steak was cooked ‘rare’ and then sliced and the classic ‘ Cafe de Paris ‘ sauce made with Cream Mustard, Thyme etc which was excellent, Lyn & Jenny had the ‘ Beef Stroganoff’ with Rice, it was very tasty and the sliced ‘Beef Fillet’ was spot on, Norah had the ‘Paupiettes of Sole in a Champagne Sauce’ garnished with Prawns, also excellent, Jack & I ordered the ‘ Sole Meuniere ‘ and for me just a plain ‘Grilled Sole ‘ – both filleted at the table, as well as lots of ‘ Frits’ & Mixed Vegetables! Brenda’s ‘Birthday Cake’ that I had ordered then arrived, it was a very nice Cream& Fruit light sponge decorated with Ice Sugar and pulled ‘Flowers’ along with White Chocolate Flakes, everybody really enjoyed it and we brought the rest home! At the same time complimentary  glasses of the ‘ House Cava’ arrived!! See the picture below of the ‘Birthday Girl’ about to blow out the candles.
