MANILVA THIS LUNCHTIME.

 WEDNESDAY /THURSDAY 27TH/28TH APRIL 2011.

We spent our last day at the villa over in Guadalmina pottering about the house; the sun was out and by the afternoon it was hot; the hairdresser called in to give Joan a perm and we then gave her lunch of Lynda McCartney Sausages with sauté Onions and vegetables! In the evening I picked the folks up from the bus station in Marbella and we were home in time to go up to Bar Rojas and watch the second half of the Real Madrid v Barcelona match; Barcelona won, 2 – nil and Messi scored both ! Real Madrid played dirty and in the second leg Barcelona will murder them! We had Huevos Fritos con Patatas Fritas for supper in the bar as we shouted on our team, at one time I think I got a Yellow Card from Manolo when I started blowing my whistle, he is a Madrid supporter! Over in Australia it was Annette Rose’s birthday, Lyn’s daughter, we left a message on Facebook,Happy Birthday Annette have a “ Helluva ” Day !

This morning after a little lie in Brenda has switched to her cleaning mode; I went round to the chemists to pick up the tablets! It is very warm and sunny so we then went for a walk with Cheta; as you can see in the pictures below she has had the full makeover, hair cut, full trim and even her toe nails painted bright red ! She has a Diamante covered bow also, for special occasions she is a proper little “ Tart ” now, not that she was not one before ! Down by the new Wine Centre they have been busy in the last week, they have demolished the steps and Council Workshops and are clearing the top car park as you can see in the pictures but we have not found out what the final plans are, yet ! Watch this space as Mario, our local councilor is the man responsible so when I catch up with him we will find out what is going to happen. The house is ready, the new pictures look great and Tim and Thea’s bedroom and dressing room are ready; the bookings are made and the flags are going out, in the morning the hire car is being dropped off and we will then stock up from the supermarket’s with Champagne,Cava,Rioja, local White and Rose wine, beers,Gin and Bacardi, as well as food, the party starts here !  The countdown to Friday evening and their arrival at Malaga Airport for the state visit is nearly over.1 day,3 hours and 30 mins ! Watch out for the picture's and report.

LA CASA DEL ABUELO.

TUESDAY/SATURDAY 30TH/4TH DECEMBER 2010.

Well after the excitement of the weekend we have stayed in the villa this week as it has got a little colder but the sun has still been around during the day; all the animals are fine and Joan is eating and sleeping well. On Tuesday we had Spanish Lamb Cutlets with Boulangere Potatoes, on Wednesday I made a large pan of Chicken Curry and on Thursday we had Omeletts made with Eggs from the Chickens next door; the old lady drops in all sorts of fruit and vegetables as well as the eggs every week, the Omeletts end up bright yellow as the yolks are very strong! Yesterday we had Hake in Breadcrumbs with homemade Tatare sauce along with Potatoes Bravos, diced cooked potatoes in a rich and savory Tomato sauce, and tonight we are having Rib Eye Steak and chips with all the trimmings.

Clive and Carolyn finally managed to fly back to London from Barbados late on Friday but now with the surprise strike by the Spanish air traffic controllers today we are into guessing again as to when they will get back here! Joan’s home help who had to fly back to England a couple of weeks ago for some treatment at a specialist hospital went to the airport this morning to fly back and got caught in the mayhem, she does not know when she will be able to fly so we have arranged for her cover to come for another week just in case. Meanwhile over in Australia Jack and Lyn on their cruise have come down the west coast stopping at Freemantle,Bunbry.Albany and then Adelaide before they get back to Sydney next Wednesday; today is Lyn’s birthday so “ Happy Birthday” to you !

We are looking forward to going home next Tuesday/Wednesday to Manilva and getting ready for Christmas; Brenda is writing the cards as I am typing this so keep an eye on the post for your card from sunny Manilva ! We hear that they are getting the Red carpet out in the village as we have been missed !!

You can’t shake hands with a clenched fist.

TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 17/18.

THURSDAY 22ND JULY 2010.

Alberto Contador clung to the wheel of Andy Schleck up the final major climb of this year’s Tour de France to remain on course to retain his crown. Shcleck attacked with 10km left on the stage from Pau as they where going up the Tourmalet leaving everybody behind except for Contador;the duo caught the seven-man breakaway group with ease to leave a straight fight between them on the grueling final 8km.Schleck repeatedly looked behind him through the mist to assess the state of Contador, who initially refused to take up the running, they exchanged glances and words as they climbed higher and higher in a frenzy of wheels and madcap spectators; the Spaniard suddenly launched an attack with 4km to go but Schleck responded superbly, giving his rival a long stare when he drew alongside him again.

With the mountain’s finally behind us we are back on the flat of south west France with the 198km stage from Selles-de-Bearn to Bordeaux today, one for the sprinters.

Mark Cavendish stormed to his fourth stage win of this year's Tour de France and his 14th in all on today's 18th stage;there were no changes at the top with Contador retaining his lead.
