MANILVA AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND

FRIDAY 10th/ MAY 2013

As usual on a Friday morning we shot down to Sabinillas for the shopping; the forecast for today is 31degs, yesterday it reached 34degs! Over the weekend it is going a little cooler, last night is was hot and we are changing over to our summer bedding and bathrobes!

When we got back we went for a walk with the dog down to the market for some fresh flowers but he was not there as his van had broken down; on the way back we called into our butchers and picked up some Steak for Saturday and English style Pork Chops for our Sunday dinner.

Mano and Anna called in at lunchtime for their papers and a chat,Mano is back in work, full-time next week; he is making his plans for Saturday to watch the Cup Final over in England with Carlos at the hotel, its Manchester City v Wigan – late kick of. Over here Barcelona play Atl.Madrid in Madrid on Sunday, so the could win ‘La Liga’ if they win! The Spanish Grad Prix is in Barcelona this weekend; Alonso is giving it his all so watch out for a Spanish win. This afternoon I’ am going to watch the ‘Giro d’Italia’ stage 7 from San Salvo to Pescara on the Adriatic coast over 177kms – lots of climbs and descents, a bit like a rollercoaster!

PS; What a stage - the weather played a huge part,it was bucketing down and on all four of the descents riders came off - including on the last one 'Sir Bradley' Oh dear! He has lost over 1 minutes and 20 seconds and is down to 23rd! The race was won by the Australian rider Adam Hansen who broke away with 130kms to go and was not caught! Tomorrow is a 55km Time Trial - will Wiggins be fit to ride? Yes he is OK!

This evening for dinner we are having fresh Pink Trout fillets again with Sautéed potatoes and Hollandaise sauce; Brenda has just come in from her local shopping down in our street with a load of fresh local Peas in the pod; so Tomorrow morning I ‘am going to make a ‘Pea Frittata’ for lunch with a’ Beef Tomato’ vinaigrette.

Tonight it is film night on lots of the channels so we will find one to watch later.We found a harrowing film called " Human Trafficking "from a USA  mini-TV series from 2005 - Mia Sevino and Donald Southerland as the FBI agents and our own Robert Carlyle as the 'Baddie'

Thought for the Day; See above for ‘Fridays’

MANILVA THIS WEEKEND

SATURDAY 27th/ APRIL 2013

It was a rather overcast day as we got up and did not clear up much as the day went on; I watched ‘Saturday Morning Kitchen’and Brenda pottered about the house cleaning and scrubbing anything she could find! I kept out of the way in the office!!

In the afternoon I watched the early kick-off in England, Manchester City v West Ham, not very exciting – City won 2-0 with two good goals. Later Everton won 1-0 against Fulham. Meanwhile on TVE1 and TDP it was tennis,Nadel won and is in the final today in Barcelona v a Spanish player and at the same time Sharapova won and is in the final today against Li Na in Stuttgart.

PS; Nadel won the Barcelona Open for the 8th time and Sharapova won a 'Porsche'in Germany.

Here in Spain in the ‘ La Liga’ Real Madrid won 1-2 at Atl.Madrid but Barcelona could only manage a draw at Atl.Bilbao 2-2 The match of the day was over in England with the late kick-off at Newcastle v Liverpool – Liverpool won 0-6 and played some sublime football – why can’t they do it all the time? I have also been following the cycling as it starts to get interesting; over in Switzerland in the ‘Tour of Romandie’which finishes on Sunday Chris Froome is leading and should win.

PS; Froome had an easy win in Switzerland.

In the evening for supper we had ‘Steak a la Plancha’ with Sautéed Onions and Mushrooms, sliced Green Beans,crisp Chips and mine topped with a fried Egg! The late film that we had not seen before was “ Jennifer 8 ” from 1992 with Andy Garcia,Uma Thurman and John Malkovich – a murder mystery with a twist – Garcia is the cop,Uma is a blind music teacher and Malkovich is the FBI -  don’t miss the end and no Malkovich didn’t do it!!

Thoughts for the Day;

A person does not seek luck; luck seeks the person.  Luck is what you have left over after you give 100 percent.

MANILVA THIS WEEKEND.

SATURDAY/SUNDAY 19th/20th NOVEMBER 2011.

As forecast the Atlantic storm hit us during the night with heavy rain but not as bad as the rest of Spain which further up the coast had severe floods; so we had an at home day on Saturday just pottering about the house after our breakfast of boiled egg for Brenda and fried egg buttie for me ! I watched the Friday night Jools Holland show which this week was a highlights edition; all my favorites from this series were on, The Civil Wars, Miles Keane, Aloe Black and all the lady singers with the great voices and attitude,Jessi J,Adele,Janelle Monae,Lana Del Ray,Emeli Sande,Lianne La Havas,Anna Calvi and Florence and the Machine – just to name a few !

In the afternoon I watched on my very good live sports channel the match between Manchester City and Newcastle – City won 3-1 and played brilliantly, meanwhile Barcelona won 4-0 with even this week Pique and Puyol scoring for a change and Real Madrid won 3-2 but Valencia should have had a penalty right at the very end ! In the evening we had steak a la plancha with chips for dinner and then settled down to watch a film on the TV.

On Sunday morning we had a local plumber coming to fix out new shower; we found him during the week when he came to fix a new tap to our repaired kitchen sink unit, he said that he could come around at 10-30 on Sunday morning and arrived spot on ! We had bought the new shower a few months ago after dropping the sisters off in Gibraltar for their flight home, we stopped on the way back at the large industrial park. The picture is below of the biggest one in Manilva ! One “ Helluva “ shower !! Brenda is now looking for a 'Wet Room ' to go with it ! Sunday was the General Election Day in Spain, the Conservative centre right PP Party won, as forecast, with an resounding overall lead in the lower house of Parliament and gave the Socialist PSOE who have been in power or eight years their worst defeat since the return of democracy in 1975.The turnout of 71% of the electorate was very high considering the bad weather over all of Spain. The result was announced very quickly on all the TV stations before mid-night which was bit of a surprise as it is still a paper vote ? But the new government will not be sworn in by the King Juan Carlos until 22ND December which under the Spanish Constitution is the system !

During the afternoon I watched the Chelsea v Liverpool game, Liverpool totally out played a very poor Chelsea team 2-1with a late goal scored by Glen Johnson meanwhile over in the USA David Beckham helped LA Galaxy to a 1-0 win over Houston Dynamo in the MLS Cup Final.Mano and Anna called in the early evening as the rain had stopped and they had come out for a breath of fresh air, so we caught up with all the news,Mano has had a few days off work.

In the evening as we watched the election results we had Roast Lamb Cutlets on a large dish of Boulangere Potatoes for supper with Brenda’s selection of vegetables; later we watched a good old cowboy film, they don’t make them these days, ‘ The Professionals ’with Lee Marvin,Burt Lancaster,Robert Ryan,Jack Palance and Claudia Cardinale !

Thought for the Day;

You have to travel far before you discover your own country.

Last night we had a surprise concert on the stage outside the Town Hall; we only discovered it was happening as they did the sound checks! It was the ‘ Children’s Theatre Group ’putting on a show for the children of the village, the Cultural Department’s programme for August came out late so we now know what is going on.Tonight there is a group performing songs from the 50s 60s and 70s so watch out for the pictures and me probably dancing ! On Saturday evening it is another Theatre Group with a play and music for us adults ! Then on Sunday the Tourism Department is producing the Flamenco Show, I will not be dancing !!
