Brenda was up first again this morning to
see little ‘ Miss Bella’ back with us for the day, for the last time this week,
she shot upstairs and joined us on our bed for a little lie in, we then
freshened up and as I was on the breakfast rota I had a ‘Toasted Crispy Smoked
Bacon Butty’ – smothered in ‘ Heinz Tomato Ketchup’ – as we have run out of the
‘ HP’ Brown sauce – open on brown for Brenda with some sliced Baby Mushrooms,
seared in the bacon juices with a knob of butter, mugs of hot/strong ‘PG’ Tips
Tea helped to wash them down!
During the night we had a loud cloud burst
and the heavy ‘ RAIN’ has not stopped since, this morning it’s very grey and
overcast with a stiff breeze, it looks like it’s in for the day, only reaching
14 degs+ - overnight down to a very cold, by our standards, 4 degs! - the first proper ‘RAIN’ that we have had in
nearly a year!! Over the next three days it’s staying the same, with moderate
to heavy rain all the time, hovering in the low ‘ teens’
On Sunday as the next ‘ Atlantic’ front
comes in we are then in for a prolonged dry and settled spell, with patchy
clouds and sunshine, all of next week, gradually going warmer, up to 19/20 degs by
next Wednesday! The breeze is dropping and the overnight temperatures will rise
a little, to 9/10 degs+ - about normal for the time of the year, watch this
space.
After breakfast I then got this evenings
supper on the go; a “ Lambs Liver with ‘Pigs in Blankets’ Red Wine Mushroom
& Onion Casserole ! I dusted the sliced ‘Liver’ in seasoned flour and
browned it off, at the same time grilling the ‘ Pigs in Blankets’ – I then made
the sauce, sweating off the sliced Onions, Shallots & Garlic with diced Baby
Mushrooms, adding a dash of Lea & Perrins & Tabasco, along with a large
glug of Red Wine, before adding a rich ‘ Demi-Glaze’ ( Gravy) and left to cook
off, before placing the ‘Liver & Pigs in Blankets’ in the large casserole dish
and covering with the sauce, ready to go in a hot oven this evening.
Meanwhile the ‘ Second Chef’ was preparing
the braised Cabbage with Acelgas & crushed Carrots & Turnips and her
famous ‘ Mashed Potato’ – to go in the hot oven this evening with the
casserole. I will garnish the casserole with ‘Crispy Smoked Bacon’ as it comes
out of the oven.
“
Comfort Food to Die For”
Today is definitely a stay at home day, we
are staying inside in the dry, keeping warm and relaxed, taking things very
easy, in my case trying to recuperate after my nasty fall, the bruising is
coming out, I’m still sore but the pain has dropped, the ‘ Night Nurse’ is
looking after me, a hot shower yesterday helped a lot, this afternoon/evening
we will be channel hopping, as usual, to find something to watch, yesterday we
caught ‘ Cold Feet ‘ and then last night the second episode of ‘ Silent Witness’
with another surprise ending!
Thoughts for the Day; See above.
