We had another nice lie in this morning, as
usual the village was very quiet, after freshening up Brenda shot down to the
local sub-post office to post a birthday card, when she returned, as I was on
the breakfast rota I had prepared my famous ‘Crispy Smoked Bacon Butty’ – with a
difference, for a change not ‘ toasted’ – but on soft white buttered bread,
like Keith serves in ‘ItZabar’! It’s more tasty & ‘messy’!! Brenda as usual
had hers, open on toasted brown bread, with of course mugs of hot/strong tea to
wash them down.
This morning the sun was out first thing
and sky was cloudless and bright blue, there was no desirable breeze so by the
time we got up it was already 26 degs+ -
overnight hovering on the 19 degs mark – the hottest so far this year, by
lunchtime it will reach 30 degs+! Tomorrow as the breeze pick up again it’s
forecast to be back down to 24/25 degs, the rest of the week and over the
weekend is staying the same, if a little warmer at times, next week it’s going
to be a ‘ hot-one’- starting from Monday, hovering in the high 20s, topping out
at 31 degs+ by mid-week! Watch this space.
Just a quick update in ‘ Doggy World Heaven’
– this afternoon ‘ Sunny’ is being dropped off just for a one night sleep-over,
he was going to be with us until Saturday morning, due to a change in arrangements,
it’s now only one night, he’s back in August for his extended holidays.
PS; ' Sunny' has just arrived and she's a bundle of joy, she's just been clipped and smells lovely!
This afternoon I’m going down to the main ‘
Medical Centre’ in Sabinillas for my re-arranged appointment with the Practise
Nurse, for my monthly ( six weeks!) ‘V12’
injection, as they didn’t show up last time! Watch this space. ( Fingers crossed- still only one !)
Yesterday evening over on ‘ Channel 5’ we
watched after supper I very interesting and moving documentary “ The Blitz: Britain
on Fire “ – it was actually all about the ‘ Blitz’ in Liverpool, which took
place over seven nights at the start of May 1941, at the time it was not
reported, to keep the badly damaged news and casualties quiet, so not letting
the enemy including the dreaded ‘ Luftwaffe’ take advantage.
It focused on mainly three stories, one of
which brought back my memories, as my Dad, ‘Tommy’ Sexton, who was a Fireman,
at the time, based at ‘Bootle Fire Station ‘ – next to the docks, he was the ‘Ladder
Man’ - as he was the lightest, he attended all the attacks, including the very
bad fire & explosion of the ‘ SS Malakand ‘ – berthed at the ‘ Huskisson
Dock’ on the evening on May 3rd – it was loaded with munitions and
the fire spread from the dock sheds, the fire service could not contain the
fire and the ship exploded, destroying the entire ‘Huskisson No 2 dock’ –
killing four people, it took 74 hours for the fire to burn out, it was the
biggest & loudest explosion in Liverpool, at the time, sending debris
crashing down over 5 miles away!
This evening for our supper we are having ‘Homemade
Burgers’ from our local Butcher, cooked on a very hot griddle-plate – ‘Cheese’
for Brenda with all the trimmings and ‘Bacon & Campo Fried Egg’ topping
mine! Served with ‘Russian Salad’ on the side with a few triple-cooked ‘
Stringfellows’!
We will be channel hopping later catching
up with all the ‘Quiz Shows’ that we follow and then later the second episode
of the programme about the Blitz.
Thoughts for the Day; See above.
