A WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY;

WEDNESDAY 26th/ OCTOBER 2016.

Another early rise this morning to see ‘ Reina’ here for the day, after a short lie, in we took ‘ Pax’ out for his first walk of the day, we went around the bottom of the village, when we returned we had a little treat of ‘ Smoked Bacon Butties ‘ with HP Sauce! ‘Reina’ is still on her carrot diet, ‘ Pax ‘ is eating everything we give him on his dry biscuits along with his ‘ treats’

I then made this evenings supper ‘ Beef & Mushroom Curry ‘ – the diced Beef is tossed in curry flavoured flour and browned off, I sweat off the diced Onions, Garlic, whole Baby Mushrooms & diced Apple before adding the secret ingredients and five different curry powders & Tomato Frito, with the juice of a whole Lime, the Beef is then added to the pan and topped up with a strong Beef & Vegetable Stock, finally I add some different curry pastes and Desiccated Coconut, to taste, and then leave the pan to cook off under the very able ‘ eye’ of the ‘Second Chef’- who skims as required! The ‘ aromas’ are wafting through the house and up the street! It will be served on ‘ Basmati Rice’ - cooked to perfection’ by the ‘ Second Chef ‘ this evening.

Overnight it was very mild, again, 19 degs, there is no breeze and this morning the sun is just breaking through, we are in for a nice, warm, day reaching the ‘ heady heights’ of 27 degs! Over the next couple of days and into the weekend its going a little cooler, as the ‘Levante’ wind blows in,  but still staying in the mid 20s, no rain on the horizon, for now.

See the picture below of the sunrise this morning coming up over the ‘ ‘Casares Costa’ beach just past next to Sabinillas, which is soon be connected across the ‘River Manilva’ by a new footpath bridge.

Last night after supper we watched ‘ Great Continental Railway Journeys’ with Michael Portillo, this week in Holland, he was in The Hague, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Delf, Haarlem, & Utrect, at one point he visited the beach resort of ‘ Scheveningen’ – I stayed there, it brought back memories when I was 7 and I was with my Mum & Dad on one of our first foreign holidays that I have talked about in the past! We visited all the places on the train also!

He had a special meal in a restaurant of the ‘Dutch’ classic ‘ Sumatra/West Indies Banquet’ – a “ Rijsttafel’ ( Rice Table )  – over 47 years ago at the ‘Bridge Inn’ in Port Sunlight’ when I was the ‘live in’ Assistant Manager working for Jane’s dad, Bert Horsley, who was the Manager, we had a ‘Dutch Head Chef’ who used to prepare the banquet, for special customers from Unilever,  the multi-national Anglo/ Dutch Food Company, who owned the ‘ Tied Village’ It consists of many ( forty is not an unusual number) side dishes served in small portions including several different Rices, Egg Rolls, Sambals, Satay, Fish, Fruit, Vegetables, Pickles& Nuts etc! Happy Memories!!

Then it was time for  ‘ Later with Jools Holland ‘ – this week it was the usual eclectic mix of music, more memories, as it featured ‘ Anouska Shankar’ the daughter of the late Ravi Shankar, the world famous ‘ Sitar’ player, she learned to play the ‘Sitar’ from the age of 7 and is now the World’s leading modern ‘Sitar’ player, she is the half-sister of  singer Norah Jones, Ravi’s other daughter; back in 1966 when I was the Manager of the ‘ Stork Hotel’ in Liverpool he stayed at the hotel with his ‘ Entourage’ as he was performing at the ‘Royal Philharmonic Hall’- it was all arranged by the ‘ Beatles’ who were just entering their ‘Indian Maraeshi’ time of life!

See below a picture of Liverpool's waterfront & The River Mersey this morning.

They all came to see him at the hotel, he stayed on the third floor/front rooms and his followers used to cook all their food on ‘ Primus Stoves’ I went to the concert as a guest and this is how I was into the ‘ Sitar’ from an early age, the ‘Beatles’ knew the hotel from earlier in 1965 when Paul McCartneys brother. Mike McGear, of the comedy, poetry & music trio ‘The Scaffold’ held his wedding reception at the hotel, I looked after them and on many other occasions during the mid 60s!

Not a lot of people know this, they do now!!

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
