A VERY WET AND CLOUDY SUNNY MANILVA ON ' PALM SUNDAY'

SUNDAY 20th 7 MARCH 2016.   “ THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING “

We both had a nice lie in this morning as we have no dogs and the village was quiet, after our breakfast Brenda helped in the kitchen and made her famous Mashed Potatoes to go with the ‘ Braised Shank of Lamb in Minted Gravy ‘ that we are having this evening for our supper, we are also having Cauliflower Florets ‘Mornay’ & Garden Peas a la Flamande’- Brenda does like her vegetables!

See Brenda's tray this evening !

Meanwhile I got my self all dressed up, in my finest, and shot off to the church for the end of the Mass and then the parade of ‘ La Borriquita’ – I got my Palm leaf to carry and then took the pictures of the ‘ Tronos – Tableu ‘ as the ‘ Penitentes’ lifted shoulder high, the Tableu, to the sound of the village Brass Band playing the National Anthem, as they set off to start the parade through the village a black cloud came over and it started rain lightly, I shot back to the house and it then turned into a very heavy downpour,  sadly the parade was abandoned as everybody dashed for cover! See the pictures above!!

For our lunch today we had another ' Take Out Tapas' from Bar Castillo, Brenda had a some light ones and I had the ' Paella' as usual,.

The forecast for Monday to Wednesday is for more heavy rain before it gets back to normal for the rest of next week and over the  Easter Weekend in time for the main parades in the village. ‘Reina’ is with us from Monday through to Thursday, each day, and now ‘ Scruffy’ is back with us for Tuesday. See the picture below taken yesterday of the village and the mountains behind;

Yesterday afternoon and evening we watched all the sport as it happened, the horse racing was very good from Uttoxeter and then the ‘Six Nations Rugby’ as it unfolded, Wales beat Italy 67-14 & Ireland beat Scotland 35-25 before England beat France 21-31 and won the ‘ Grand Slam’ for the first time in 13 years! Sadly Everton lost at home 0-2 to Arsenal.

The picture below shows one of the ‘hidden jems’ in the heart of the City of Liverpool, “ Exchange Flags “ its behind the Town Hall and has not been developed over the past 75 years at least, a little unknown fact is that under the flagstones is the secret ‘WW2’ Headquarters of the ‘Western Approaches’ – the Royal Navy command post for the Battle of the Atlantic, the “ Nelson Monument’ was in fact designed as an air vent! Not a lot of people know that - they do now!

Thoughts for the Day; See above.
