WEDNESDAY
19th/ NOVEMBER 2014.
The sun
braking in through the shutters woke us this morning on yet another glorious
day here in sunny Manilva, the weekend is also starting to look good and the
really good news is that our ‘Winter Fuel’ allowance has just arrived in our
bank to keep us ‘Pensioners’ warm! After our usual breakfast we both showered
and freshened ourselves up, I also did my ‘Pilates’ exercises for my legs, arms, shoulders, back
and hips!
‘Scruffy’
is arriving at lunchtime for a two day sleep over and ‘Reina’ is here tomorrow
for the day; next week it’s the return of ‘Charlie’ – the dog! We are really
looking forward to welcoming him back as he’s a real character and lovely to
have around, he is with us for a four day ‘short break’ from Tuesday to
Saturday!
Talking of
‘Breaks’ David & Jane are having a short break away first down to London
and then onto Paris; in London they went up to the top of the new ‘Shard’ to
the restaurant, they then visited some other ‘in’ foodie and bars places before stepping into the ‘Grand Champagne Bar’ at St. Pancras Station before
catching the ‘Eurostar’ train to Paris .
Their first
meal in Paris was the classic ‘Steak & Frits’ with BĂ©arnaise sauce, see the
picture below, it reminded me of my visit to Paris over 50 year ago when I
arrived on the original ‘Orient Express’ from Austria, my first meal was
exactly the same and I can still taste the BĂ©arnaise sauce to this day!! David
has family in Paris so they have hit all the right spots including a visit to the very
famous “ Restaurant/Brassiere Chartier ” in Montmartre where you can’t book you just have to queue (
1 hour!) as they do over 400 covers every hour!
Speaking of
food this evening we are having a late supper as we are out in the early
evening at ‘Cafeteria Plaza’ in Calle Mar for a drink with Carlos, Ann &
Mano’s son as its his 40th birthday today, he was only a baby in
arms when Mano first came to work for us at the ‘Hotel Seventy Degrees’ back in
the late 70s! See the picture below of the 'Birthday Boy'
We are
having ‘Grilled Gammon Steak’ with Pineapple and a ‘Campo’ Fried Egg, Garden
Peas and as a treat twice-cooked Frits!
Last night
we found a very gripping and emotional film to watch “ The Impossible ” from
2012. What made it even more interesting was that before it started there was an
hour long documentary about the film and how it was made, it was produced and
directed by Spanish film makers in English and is about a real life family who
are hit by the Tsunami! It stars Ewan McGregor, the award winning Naomi Watts
and a young actor Tom Holland, watch it to find out what happens !!
Thoughts
for the Day; See above.
