MANILVA AND MELBOURNE AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND

THURSDAY 14th/ FRIDAY 15th/ MARCH 2013.

The weather is back to sun and clear blue skies but a little colder at the moment; over the weekend it is forecasting a bit of the damp stuff but then back to normal in time for hopefully the ‘Semana Santa’ week of religious festivities when is usually rains! We had a nice quite day at home and just pottered about doing nothing – it’s a hard life but somebody has to do it!! In the evening for supper we had a Mixed Grill cooked on the griddle pan, dry and made from what I could find in the fridge and deep freeze, cooked Liver and Chicken fillet, Lamb Cutlets, Smoked Bacon, English Pork Sausages and Tomato along with a fried Egg and Baked Potato !

Meanwhile the football got very exciting in the ‘UEFA Europa League’ – on Wednesday Arsenal lost on the away goal rule to Bayern Munich but on Thursday Spurs, Chelsea and Newcastle all won in very gripping matches with all the winning goals coming right at the end! They have all missed one another in the draw for the Quarter finals as the three Spanish teams did in the ‘Champions League’ The late film was “ Showgirls ”from 1995 which of course takes place in Las Vegas, the one that we know! It stars Elizabeth Berkley ?! and Kyle Mac Lachlan – the final scene shows the interstate out of Las Vegas with a sign saying ‘Los Angeles 208 miles’ which we drove out on a few years before!!

On Friday morning we did a quick shop down in Sabinillas and picked up the papers and some fresh flowers from the local market;Mano and Anna had called in on Thursday morning for a good catch up and Mano arranged to meet me at the ‘Water Office’ on Friday morning to check out our bills which have been a little high to say the least ! Sadly I was not able to watch the final of racing from Cheltenham as I had a problem getting on-line - so I missed the big race - the 'Gold Cup' Mano called in later and helped me get back on-line,but too late !

In the afternoon we watched a film for a change instead of reading; “ Calendar Girls ” from 2003 with an ensemble cast of English actors ! Helen Mirren,Julia Walters, Linda Bassett, Annette Crosbie,Celia Imrie and Penelope Wilton to name jus a few ! The comedy won man awards at the time about the true and moving story.
For supper we had dry griddled( note the theme!) Salmon fillet with fresh Gambas and sliced Baked Potatoes  also sautéed dry !The late film was a Steven Segal all action, no acting movie called “ Half Past Dead ”from 2002.

PS; Early on Saturday morning Jack and Lyn made contact on the Skype video from a very wet Melbourne; they have just had the hottest weather in a 148 years and now as the Grand Prix practice is taking place the heavens have opened! They had some very exciting news, Annette Rose, Lyn’s second daughter who was born in Australia is coming over to visit us in Spain at the same time as they are here for Brenda’s birthday ! They plan to fly back to England with the two sisters and finally fly back to Australia together – Brenda has nether seen or met her niece and so is very excited to meet her down here in Sunny Manilva and welcome her to our house! Jack and Lyn had just been away with their caravan on a trip along the “ Great Ocean Road ” – ‘Surf Coast Highway’ which is a stretch of road,151 mile long on the ‘ State of Victoria ' coast – it is in the top ten great drives of the World and we were watching a documentary about is earlier this week on TVE2 !!  It’s going to be a “ Helluva ” week – we are going to the Manilva Aparthotel to book the apartments on Monday !!  Watch this space.

Thoughts for the Day;

Family is the most effective form of government.  Hereditary is what sets the parents of a teenager wondering about each other.
