FRIDAY 29th/
MARCH 2013.
SEMANA SANTA IN
ANDALUCIA THURSDAY NIGHT;
The
pictures below were taken from our large screen TV last night as the ‘1 Canal
Sur TV Channel’ followed the parades as they happened around the region; In
particular the coverage of Malaga was very comprehensive, the atmosphere is
totally different, a lot more ‘Light and Happy’ as the commentators said. We
missed the start of the day when the Spanish Legion parades with its marching
band and honor guard behind their Tronos, heads held back, high arms and high
legs at the ‘Legionnaires’ slow march – very impressive!
The Grand
‘Tronos’ weigh over 5000kilos and need between 250/300 ‘Costaleros’ to carry
them – they are kept in special buildings as they can’t fit through the church
doors and are put together weeks in advance; the pictures of the ‘ Costaleros’
on their knees and then their hands is when they have to maneuver the Tronos
out of the cathedral door, a bit like letting the air out of the tires!
In the main
cities all over the country the same parades are happening, the bigger the
town, the larger and more Tronos take part; each ‘Hermandades’ has its
different regalia and colours as you can see and also the bigger the Tronos the
bigger and more grand the band. There are two types of ‘Tronos’ the one carried
on the shoulders with the ‘Costaleros’ on view and the other ones are when they
are underneath and carry them across the back of their necks and shoulders –
theses are a lot harder as you can imagine!
Thought for
the Day;
Believe it
can be done. When you believe something can be done, really believe,you mind
will find the way to do it.
