MANILVA BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY 11th/12th OCTOBER 2012.

This time of the year is our favorite as it is warm and sunny ( Even more so this year ) but it is very pleasant at the same time as there is a light cooling breeze; Thursday was no different and the forecast for over the weekend is more of the same ,if a little cooler. We gave the car a wash and clean in the small square behind our house in the morning before going for a walk with the dog, we bumped into Anna in Bodega Augustin and had a coffee with her, we then all walked back up to our house via the complex that Sally Ann’s house is in, sadly she was out so we carried on up to ours. In the afternoon Brenda went up on the roof terrace to finish her book and I caught up with the E-mails,Facebook messages etc.before watching the Live with Jools Holland programme from Tuesday, on the BBCIPlayer,it was very good especially ‘ Jessica Ware ’who has a ‘ Helluva ’voice ! In the evening after supper we watched the news and weather on TVE1 then channel hopped.

We got caught out this morning, Friday, as we had not noticed that it was a Bank Holiday; it is “ Fiesta Nacional de Espana ” – ‘ Hispanic Day ’We only spotted it last night on the news and then when we checked the calendar so today all the shops are closed – our usual shopping day ! It is an annual national public holiday in Spain on October 12th – it commemorates when Christopher Columbus first set foot in the America’s in 1492; the King supervises the raising of the Spanish national flag in the center of Madrid,the ‘ Plaza de Naptuno’ and then reviews the parade of representatives of most of Spain’s military units in full dress uniform along with various military vehicles and finally a fly pass by the airforce jets trailing Red and Yellow smoke ! It is very well organized and the uniforms are very impressive. Tonight it is the ‘ Chef’s night off ’so we are going up to Bar Rojas for supper.The late film when when we came back was " Lucky Number Slevin " from 2006 with Morgan Freeman,Ben Kingsley,Bruce Willis and John Hartnett in a murder mystery with lots of twists right up to the end.

Thought for the Day;

Bravery never goes out of fashion.
