SUNDAY 8th/JULY 2012.
We had a nice leisurely morning doing nothing – it’s hot ! Brenda pottered about as usual, she can’t keep still and I went up to the office to see if I could find some live sport on the PCs. Success ! I found a channel which let’s you watch live TV from all over the world ; it meant that I could watch on the Spanish TV channels that I normally watch on the TV- later I’ am going to check it out further as it has all sorts of categories . So first off it was the German MotoGP – defending champion Casey Stoner crashed out on the last lap as his team mate Dani Pedrosa took his first win of the season; Jorge Lorenzo was second and he now leads the standings as they go into the next race in Italy next weekend.
Next I found the British Grand Prix and so I was able to catch the race live from Silverstone ; Mark Webber passed Fernando Alonso four laps from the finish in a close battle and Vettle came in third, sadly Hamilton and Button did not have a good day as they came home 8th and 10 th ! Alonso till leads the Championship but his lead has been cut as they go to Germany for the next round ! As this was finishing Anna called in for a chat and gossip – it looks like Sally has found a Town House in Nuevo Maniva.
So next up was the tennis and cycling ; I lined up on the BBC Sports Tele/Text the coverage of the Men’s Final from Wimbledon and at the same time on the large PC I tuned into the ITV4 coverage of the ‘ Tour de France – Stage 8 from Belfort to Porrentruy in Switzerland over 159kms. Britain’s Bradley Wiggins retained the overall lead as the youngest rider in this years Tour, Thibaut Pinot from France, took a superb win as he hit the front from 2km from the top of the final climb, it was a tremendous piece of riding by Pinot who was enthusiastically encouraged by his team manager shouting, gesticulating and banging the side of the support car ! The decent to the finish was fast and furious as all the tour contenders chased him down, Wiggins and Evans played cat and mouse to the line as they took risks on the steep decent – descending is an art form in its own right !! Monday’s stage 9 is the fist of two long individual time trials from Arc-et-Senans to Besancon over 41.5kms – in which Wiggins will aim to gain time on his rivals – he is specialist time trialer !
As this was all happening the tennis started and Andy Murray started well as he won the first set; after a rain delay the roof was closed over and Federer never looked back, the Swiss was vastly superior and put Murray under the cosh as he went on to win his record-equaling seventh Wimbledon title and his 17th Grand Slam Title !!
Meanwhile Brenda was up on the roof terrace taking in the sun and air as she ironed and then later we switched books as we had our early evening cocktails; tonight for supper we had flattened Chicken Fillets with Sauté Potatoes and salad.
PS; Check out the July Calendar below !
PPS; The pictures above show the winners and one looser - sorry Andy !
Thought for the Day;
We can do anything we want to do if we stick to it long enough.
