MANILVA TV.

Sunday 7th.September.

In the early afternoon we called into the house to refresh ourselves and noticed on the TV that the local station,ManilvaTV, was broadcasting live from the Fiesta,They cover all the events and mostly film them as they did on Saturday so when we went back to the main street after watching the end of the Grand Prix from Spa,Hamilton was robbed! I managed to get myself interviewed by one of the news presenter’s Ana Ma Ruiz with the help of some local interpreter’s about living in Manilva, the Fiesta and where we came from, this was before I knew that I was crushing the grapes, later they showed the Grape crushing live,so I was on the local TV twice!!
A “ Star “ is born !!

Sunday 7th.September.

During the afternoon a parade of Horse’s came along the Main Street at the hottest time of the day and passed under the cool spray’s coming from below the canopy; The sun was very, very hot and it was one of the finest days so far this year for the Fiesta. The pictures show a selection of the riders as they went up and down Calle Mar to the applause of the crowds.

Sunday 7th.September.

The last part of the festival is when the first pickings of the grape are crushed in the vat at around seven o’clock in the evening and the crowds are at their highest and liveliest! I approached the Mayor,Antonia Munoz and the Head of the Fiestas Department,Paqui Lopez and suggested that I would like to crush the grapes in the future-only to find myself being shown to the vat and the Mayor helped me climb in and at the same time she took the video with our camcorder !! So I became the first English man to crush the grapes in Manilva,it should be a vintage year!! As I climbed out with the helping hand of the local policemen our neighbour’s at the top of our street handed me the first glass of the juice which I downed in one! Viva la Grape!!

MANILVA,FIESTA DE LA VENDIMIA.

Saturday 6th. September.

We had a lie in as we had a long day ahead of us,Andy called in at lunchtime with the second PC on which he had got rid of all the virus’s and he had also updated all the anti-virus programmes, thanks Andy! We then had a light lunch and went for a walk around the village as the sun was not out and it was cool;Around six o’clock we walked down to the church where all the village gather’s in their finest to follow the procession led by the village band up to the Main street;all the children and senoritas carry grapes in little baskets at the same time. You can see in the picture’s below this as it happened.By the time the procession reached the Town Hall stage it was starting to go dark and all the lights came on.They stopped at the top of our street and parked the “ Virgen De Los Dolores ” next to the stage then they had a weigh in to find the largest bunch of grapes ! as you can see below. All the bars are by now doing a roaring trade and it is starting to get lively as the evening goes on.We popped into our house for a little snack of cold cuts and baked potato to keep us going .The procession then makes it way back to the church and then the bands start to play, one outside the Town Hall and the other at the end of the main street, they played alternatively and the crowds move from one end to the other which you can see in the pictures below. We danced and sang along with the music as we stopped at each bar for a little light refreshment ! The music went on until three o’clock as we made our way home along Calle Mar to end a “ Helluva Day” In the pictures below I have again appeared doing a “ Alfred Hitchcok” walk on part!!

MANILVA.

Thursday 4th. September.

This morning we had made an appointment to see the garage about the Winnebago so we shot across first thing and had a very good meeting and over the weekend we are mulling over our options and will come to a decision at the start of next week. This evening is curry night so I finished it when we came home and have left it on a low light.During the night we could hear workmen in the main street and this morning when we looked they had finished the Wine Vat and as well as putting up the stage in front of the Town Hall they have also put up decorations under the canopy all along the street,as you can see in the pictures below.

MANILVA.

Wednesday 3rd. September.

First thing in the morning we walked around to the butcher’s and picked up some Pork Cutlets for dinner tonight,I’ve just made a large pan of Ratatouille with the fresh Aubergine’s,Peppers.Courgettes and Onions that our neighbours have given us in the last few days.As we walked under the canopy in the main street, as it is very hot and sunny today, the council workers are putting up under the canopy a water sprinkling system! We presume that as it gets hotter during the day it comes on and helps the crowds during the Wine Festival at the weekend!!Stage One of the Vat is nearly complete as you can see in the picture, stage two will finish off the sides and roof, watch this space!

MANILVA.

Saturday 30th.August.

We got up late after the night before and decided to have a quiet day at home! It is still very hot during the day but in the evening as we move onto the roof terrace as a light breeze comes across the roof’s of the village and we sit and read our book’s and have a cool drink; for supper we had Steak and Frits,we bought the Entrecote from our local butcher in the village and the potatoes come from shop in our street and are fresh out of the ground! On the TV. the football coverage has begun of the Spanish League and also the highlights of the Premier League in England, the live match does not start until 10-00pm our time!

Sunday 31st. August.

As usual on a Sunday we have a late Brunch,we have found out that Anna’s favourite meal is Brunch ( She told us! ) so next Sunday we have asked her to join us and Mano if he is not working as our Sunday Roast’s won’t be back on the menu just yet! Another very hot day so later in the evening we walked around to Bar Castillo at 10-00pm and sat outside to have some Tapas and Vino Blanco.

Monday 1st.September 2008.

We called into the Aparthotel as we had arranged to meet the Head of Manilva TV. to discuss my proposal’s about a TV. progamme when we were introduced to him at the Band contest on Friday but he was unable to make it- manana! One of the local’s who is also part of Ana Mari’s family,Antonio gave us a large bag of Tomatoe’s,Green Pepper’s and Aubergine’s which he had just picked whilst we were there. On the way back to our house we noticed in the main street next to the top of our street a workman starting to build the Wine Vat for the “ Fiesta de la Vendimia ” this weekend; the Wine Festival take’s place over two days and night’s and the canopy’s across the street are to protect the crowd’s from the mid-day sun.The picture below show’s the start of Wine Vat,so I will take a picture each day as it goes up!
