SATURDAY 8th/ SEPTEMBER 2018.
We were awoken this morning by the sound of the preparations for the Annual ‘Marathon Mountain Bike Race’ starting at the top of our street in front of the Town Hall, also the local shop at the bottom of the street had it’s deliveries a day late, sliding down past us on pallets! Little prince ‘Percy’ spent the night on our bed, after a quick freshen up we took him for nice long walk down around the bottom of the village, as the streets around us are ‘ taped-off’ for the race.

When we returned Brenda was on the
breakfast rota so we had her famous ‘ Campo Poached Eggs on Toast’ with mugs of
strong tea.
We then made contact with Jack & Lyn
over in Melbourne, Australia, on the ‘ Skype’ video, for a nice, long, catch up
and chat, they are both well, taking things very easy at home, and had been out
for lunch the other day with Deb & Annette, they have traded in their two
old cars and Jack has bought Lyn a new ‘Suzuki Swift’ ( two-door- white)
At the moment Jack’s daughter Sue is on a ‘Grand
Tour of Europe’ with her best friend, Trudie, she went to see her daughter in London,
who is teaching there, they then went to Paris, Berlin & Prague, they then
joined the ‘MSC Orchestra’ in Gothenberg, Sweden, to cruise to Rotterdam/
Amsterdam, Dover, La Caruna, in Northern Spain, then Lisbon, Portugal and
yesterday they berthed in Gibraltar, if we had known, we would have gone to see
her, after all it’s only 30 mins away!

Now for the bad news, at the moment it’s
started to ‘ RAIN’ – the ‘wet-stuff’ has arrived, the temperature has dropped
down to 23 degs at the same time, what’s happening in sunny Manilva?! Tomorrow
& Monday is looking dry and a little warmer, but then the rest of next week
it’s forecast for light/moderate to heavy rain, up to next Sunday, the only
little bit of good news is that it will be hovering on the high 20s, with a
light/medium breeze, very un-seasonal for the time of the year, watch this
space. Bring on the ‘ Waterproofs ‘ !!
On the sports new today; no ‘ La Liga or
Premier League’ football this weekend, as it’s the new ‘ UEFA Nations League ‘ –
England welcome Spain to Wembley later today.
On Stage 14 of the ‘La Vuelta 2018’ it goes
through and over 5 mountains, from Cistierna to Les Praeres/Nava, over 171 kms.

This evening for our supper we are having a
large ‘Rib of Beef’- on the bone, grilled on a very hot griddle-plate ‘
Med-Rare’ – then left to rest, before taking it off the bone and slicing it ‘French’
style, into fingers, garnished with seared Asparagus Spears & Button Mushrooms,
with a sauceboat of the classic ‘ Bearnaise’ sauce, served with ‘ French’ whole
Green Beans & twice-cooked ‘ Pont Neuf’ chips, the classic ‘ Grandaddy’ of
French Fries, served at the now closed ‘ Chez Clovis ’next to the ‘ Pont Neuf’
( New Bridge ) – in fact the oldest in Paris!
PS; Watch out for tomorrow’s ‘ Roast Loin
of Pork ‘ – boned & rolled, with ‘ Crackling’ and a large selection of
fresh, local Vegetables and of course my now famous ‘ Goose-Fat’ Roast
Potatoes, with ‘ finger-locking’ Pan Gravy!
We are having an at home day, due to the
weather, taking things very easy, relaxing and basically doing nothing, because
we can, we will catch up with all the news and then find something to watch
after channel hopping, later this evening it’s the ‘ Last Night of the Proms’
from the Royal Albert Hall in London.
