A VERY ' CRISP & SHARPE ' SUNNY MANILVA ON SUNDAY.

SUNDAY 10^th/ NOVEMBER 2019.   “ REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY “

We managed another nice lie in this morning before two neighbours talking in the street below our bedroom window woke us up! We then freshened up and before we went downstairs we made a quick ‘ Skype’ voice call to Jack & Lyn over in Melbourne, as it was a good time to call them, 10-00 am here, 8-00 pm over there, sadly Jack is not very well and now has the ‘Palliative’ care nurses calling in to look after him, Lyn was her usual ‘chatty’ self and we had a good catch up with all the news, we are going to keep in touch with her on a more regular basis, for now.

When we came downstairs, as usual, Brenda & I go outside to see/feel how the weather is, sadly this morning, overnight, some ‘ Scum-Bag’ has stolen one of our wall plant pots, from around the corner, it was a large one with a special plant, they are all fixed/secured to the wall – we hate this happening, as it shows that here are nasty people around in the village!

We had a light breakfast of fresh sliced Banana and toast with mugs of hot/steaming to tea, before getting the day on the go. I’m up in the office/studio on the ‘WWW’ – then typing/posting today’s Blog, meanwhile Brenda is ‘ pottering’ – at 11-00 am ( 12 – noon here)  we are going watch the ‘ Remembrance Day’ ceremony from the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London, as this year the ‘Prince of Wales’ lays the wreath, for the Queen,  who will be on the balcony overlooking the ceremony, our favourite part is when the massed Bands play  “ Elgar’s Enigma Variations Nimrod “ before the ‘ Last Post ‘

This morning the sun was out earlier the sky is clearing and blue with a few high clouds, there is a stiff/cold breeze blowing, so sadly by lunchtime it’s only to going to reach 16 degs+ - with the threat of the ‘ Wet-Stuff’ in the air, overnight dropping down to only 9/11 degs, cold for the time of the year, next week is now looking cooler, with some sunshine at times, staying windy and going wet on a couple of days, as the breeze stiffens, by next weekend down to 14/15 degs! Watch this space.

Over at the ‘Carleton University Fieldhouse’ in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, yesterday Alanna received her graduation for her ‘ Masters Degree in English Literature ‘ after studying English, Political Science & International Relations, it was a proud ‘Momma’ moment, as you can see below, with a graduation gift of the vintage ‘ Underwood’ typewriter, from the company based in New York, back in the early 1900s, it was the Worlds, first widely, most successful modern typewriter!

Just a quick update on the football results from yesterday; Everton won 1-2 ! – over here Real Madrid won 0-4 & Barcelona won 4-1 with yet another Messi hat-rick!

This evening for our supper we are having ‘Pan-Seared Medallions of Pork Fillet’ accompanied with a creamy ‘Green Peppercorn ‘ Salsa, served with whole Baby ‘ French’ Green Beans and Baby Carrot Batons with Ginger, along with ‘ Pommes  de Terre Rissolees ‘ – Baby New Potatoes ( boiled) in their skins, then sautéed in foaming Parsley Butter until crisp & golden!

While I have been typing/ posting today’s Blog I have been, as usual, listening to the ‘Pete Black Retro Roadshow’ on ‘Castle Radio FM 89.2 & Online on the WWW’ as the ‘Film Quiz’ came on, it was this week ‘ Psycho’ from 1960, with Antony Perkins & Janet Leigh, directed by Alfred Hitchcock ! We are in the monthly draw, again!!

Later this afternoon we will be watching the ‘ Match of the Day ‘ as Liverpool  welcome Manchester City to Anfield.

This evening after supper we will be channel hopping to find something to watch, last night the ‘ Spiral 7 ‘ back to back episodes were very gripping, as the two main Detectives went ‘ Rogue ‘ to help find the murderer of their colleague and who was the master mind behind the money laundering gang?! At the end they were both arrested by the corrupt police chief!! Watch this space.

MANILVA THIS WEEK.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY 10^th/11^th NOVEMBER 2011.

Thursday morning was the best day of the week ,so far, the sun was out early and we had clear blue skies; Brenda had arranged for Cheta to have a shampoo and tidy up at the vets in Calle Mar just around the corner from the house in the morning. The pictures are below after she came back and joined Brenda on the exercise bike ! I caught up with the WWW. and sent some messages on Facebook as later Brenda was able to go out on the roof terrace to take in the sunshine. In the evening after supper we watched a good film in English on the Divinity Channel; it shows a lot of programmes in English all the time including Sex and the City back to back episodes ! The film was a Bruce Willis one that we had not seen before “ Hostage ” which was a typically Willis all action film with a twist.

First thing on Friday morning we went for the bus to go down to Sabinillas to do the weekend shopping and as usual were given a lift by a friendly stranger; we picked up the English local papers from the English Book and Card shop and at the same time some of the Xmas Cards – watch out they will be in the post ! At the supermarket we also bought some new Xmas table decorations and napkins, this Christmas is looking to be a lot quieter than last when we had Brian and Lilli and the Guerrero clan join us on Xmas Day and Boxing Day, all the Guerrero’s are working, we think, except Anna ! and of course Brain and Lilli will be having a cold and white Christmas up in Pori in Finland !! The Armistice Day does not mean anything locally, we spent all day explaining our Poppies ! but the 11 – 11 – 11 date was on the news and in all the papers, they even had a special National Lottery for it !Our little reminder and tribute below says it all – We will remember them. When we got back, by taxi this time, as we had too much shopping to carry, we then walked Cheta down to the local market in the village by the sports complex and picked up some flowers; as we came to the Fruit and Vegetable stall we saw standing in front of it the biggest vegetable that we have ever seen, it turned out to be the mysterious vegetable that out next door neighbour Anna gave us in the middle of the week, it is called a ‘ Calabaza ’and is a member of the Pumpkin family but not as we know them, the one in the picture above stood over six feet high before it was cut into slices !! Next to the market the new Social Services office is nearing completion, they were putting the very impressive glass front up as we passed as you can see in the picture above. In the evening for supper we had something a little different; on Wednesday we picked up from the English section in Supersol Youngs frozen Haddock fillets in crispy batter and a tin of Mushy Peas, so along with fresh Chips we had ‘ Fish, Chips and Peas ’ a la chip shop, but not in paper !

FRIDAY 1ST, JANUARY,NEW YEARS DAY 2010.

Friday 1st January 2010.

The start of a new decade down here on the Costa del Sol and we hope to resolve our little technical difficulty over the next couple of weeks, watch this space ! As we got up in the morning after the night before the sun came out, a good sign for the future? We had two New Years Eve celebrations, the first with Joan as we celebrated the Spanish one with twelve grapes and Cava and listened to the ships horns from the Bay of Gibraltar and followed the fireworks above Tarifa as we also watched the fireworks display from Berlin and Paris on TV. We then watched Jools Holland and saw in the English New-Year an hour later down in the TV lounge as we hit the cocktails, the programme was excellent with Sir Tom Jones singing the Green, Green Grass of Home being the highlight ! At the same time we watched the fireworks in London and Edinburgh on Sky TV which were both spectacular.
This morning Joan came down for a breakfast of Scrambled Eggs with Smoked Pink Trout and a very nice Pink Cava to welcome the New Year in the right fashion; we then hit the Skype phone to wish a Happy New Year to all our family and friends who we always ring traditionally, we had caught Jack and Lyn over in Australia earlier on New Years day morning, ten hours ahead of us, Brenda’s two sisters were next, Tim in Colwyn Bay was just surfacing, Hilda also in Colwyn Bay,Mano and Anna who were on the way home from the party at the Aparthotel in Manilva, Zoe our dear friend and her husband Graham in Manchester and Jane over in Chester.I have also answered all the E-mails and Face book messages from over Xmas and the New Year. We have also in our thoughts over the next few months Jane’s daughter,Alexa and Yolande and Daves daughter Jasmine over in Switzerland who are both not very well. For dinner we had Braised Steak with vegetables and New Potatoes, I had made two dishes of the Braised Steak so I did not have to cook! The picture below shows the Sherry Trifle that was a joint effort between us, getting all the right ingredients was a major challenge, its going to last us for days!
