A VERY COLD & DAMP SUNNY MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY.

WEDNESDAY 30th/ JANUARY 2019.

We had a nice long lie in this morning as the village is, as usual, is very quiet, we then freshened up and had our regular breakfast of toast & tea, before getting the day on the go. ‘Chispa’ has just called in to see us, as at the moment it’s still dry, she has just had her bath and smells like a little ‘ Tart’!

Last night on the Canadian news ( CNN Toronto) on ‘Facebook’ - that we follow, is showed the severe snow falls and extremely low freezing temperatures that they are having ( - 30 degs!) as well as over all of Ontario, we have sent a message to Sandra & Bill to take care when they are out & about, Sandra going to work and Bill working in it! ‘ Stay Safe & Warm ‘ !!

See below Everett, Ontario,  this morning !

Over in the UK it's " White-Out Wednesday " as they have  2 inches of Snow!!

Meanwhile over in Melbourne & Australia the folks are in the height of their summer, with the temperatures reaching 40 degs+ - they are having to use their air-conditioning all the time! ‘ Keep Cool at all Times ‘ !!

Down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ overnight it turned a little damp, as forecast, this morning it’s very cold, by our standards, windy and the ‘ wet-stuff’ is in the air, by lunchtime it will be only 15 degs, the rain is hitting us later and over the next couple of days, I’m going to get wet when I’m out on my travels on Friday morning for the weekly shopping, a stronger wind will be blowing also, bringing in a new warmer weather front over the weekend, we are then in for a warmer and sunny Saturday & Sunday, next week is looking dry & settled, with patchy clouds but mostly warm & sunny, hovering in the high ‘ teens’ reaching 20 degs+! – overnight up to 10 degs!!  The ‘ Sun’ will be back in sunny Manilva ! Watch this space.

Yesterday over in North Wales in Colwyn Bay the beach turned ‘ White’ as they had snow, during our 13 years at the ‘ Hotel Seventy Degrees ‘ we only had Snow once, inland at our house in ‘Rhyd-Y-Foel’ - 2 miles away, it was 2/3 feet thick! See below the beach.

This evening for our supper I’m preparing later a ‘ Casserole of Sliced Beef’ in a rich ‘ Red Wine( thanks Brenda!) Onion & Mushroom Salsa’ – accompanied with Brenda’s famous ‘ Mashed Potato’ and a small selection of fresh local Vegetables  ‘ Comfort Food for the Gods ’ – on Thursday Brenda is having her favourite ‘Cheese Omelette’ I will have mine, ‘ Omelette Paysanne ‘ – made with a filling of small diced assorted vegetables & potatoes. Our ‘ Friday Fish Night’ is going to be my version/recipe’ of the classic ‘ Fish Pie ‘ – using assorted fish & seafood.

Just a quick reminder to all our family & friends all over the World, please when you are out & about, send us a ‘ Postcard ‘ of where you have been, you then get one back from sunny Manilva or the ‘ Costa Del Sol’! See below one of our three boards !!

This evening after supper will be settling down to catch up with all the news, then channel hopping to find something to watch, over February there are lots of old series coming back, watch this space.

A NOW VERY ' CRISP' & SUNNY MANILVA ON SATURDAY.

SATURDAY 10th/ NOVEMBER 2018.

We had a nice lie in this morning as the village is very quiet, especially as there is no traffic along ‘Calle Mar and down our street, after freshening up Brenda was on breakfast duty, so we had her famous ‘ Campo Poached Eggs on Toast’ - boiled with Toast fingers for her, with mugs of strong tea, to set us up for the day ahead.

See below;

Yesterday evening Daniela picked up little princess ‘ Reina’ from ‘ Doggy World Heaven ‘ – her last visit with us for a while, sadly, as we love ‘Reina’ and over the past few years she has been with us every week and other times, it was five days a week to start, then 3/4 –down to 1 or 2 lately, after the folks moved into their new grand villa, with Daniela’s parents. ‘The end of an era’ She will be back with us for ‘ High-Days & Holidays’ in the future, watch this space.

This morning has started a little grey & overcast, the sun is trying to break through the patchy clouds, by lunchtime, hopefully it will reach 18/19 degs+ - tomorrow it’s more of the same, going a little warmer, 21 degs+ ! Next week is still looking mixed, with some of the ‘wet-stuff’ at times, and as the breeze gets up going a little cooler, partly cloudy at times also, the overnight temperatures are hovering on the 13/14 degs mark, not bad for the time of the year, next weekend it’s going to rather wet with light to moderate rain, watch this space.

See the sunrise this morning over the beach down in Sabinillas.

This weekend on the sports front we have an ‘ Helluva’ extravaganza, today and on Sunday!  In the ‘Premier League’ tomorrow Liverpool welcome Fulham, Everton go down to Chelsea and the ‘ Match of the Day’ is the derby game as Manchester City welcome Manchester Utd, over here in ‘La Liga’ also on Sunday, Barcelona welcome Real Betis and Real Madrid travel to play Celta Vigo.

It’s the ‘ Brazilian Grand Prix’ tomorrow with qualifying today, Lewis Hamilton is already the ‘ World Champion’!

The ‘ National Hunt Racing’ later, is coming from Wincanton, Doncaster & Aintree!

Meanwhile at the ‘ Home Rugby Union Internationals ‘ today, Ireland welcome Argentina, Wales play Australia and at the home of Rugby, Twickenham, England welcome the ‘ All Blacks ‘ – New Zealand!

For our supper this evening we are having ‘Tournados Rossini’ – the Fillet steaks are wrapped in Smoked Bacon, then seared on the very hot griddle plate, finished in a very hot oven – ‘Med-Rare’ – garnished with seared Asparagus Spears & Button Mushrooms. I place them on a toasted ‘ Crute’  surrounded with a pool of ‘Red Wine Jus’ and top them with a ‘Quenelle’ of local Iberian Pate!  Accompanied with whole ‘ French’ Green Beans & twice-cooked ‘Frits’

Tomorrow I’m making my famous version of the old classic “ Lancashire Hotpot “ – served with Pickled Beetroot and Cabbage with Alcelgas. ‘Comfort Food’ to die for!!

After supper this evening we will channel hop to find something to watch.

A CLEAR AND DRY SUNNY MANILVA ON SUNDAY;

SUNDAY 23rd/ NOVEMBER 2014.

We were awoken this morning by our neighbors opposite, who are from Madrid, packing and leaving to go home; we then had a quick breakfast and then got tonight’s supper on the go “ Braised Steak with Shallots,Onions,Mushrooms & Vegetables ” See the picture below of my ‘ Mis-en-Place’

I’ve used diced Onions, Shallots, Carrots, Leek, Celery, Turnips, Pumpkin, Green &White Beans, Garlic and Bay Leaves, Mushroom stalks and sautéed Onions! My secret ingredients along with a good slug of Brenda’s Red Wine and Rich Beef & Vegetable stock together with some Mixed Herbs and Tomato ‘Frito’ finish off the sauce after adjusting the constancy and seasoning to taste! Brenda is getting ready Cabbage with Alselgas and a dish of her famous ‘Mashed Potato’ See below the finished 'Supper'!

At the moment the wet stuff is keeping away and its clear with no breeze, the temperature is on the 20degs mark, so it’s rather pleasant and mild in sunny Manilva! The sun has just come out and the sky is Blue!

Just a quick update on all the scores and results from yesterday; both Everton and Manchester City won 2-1, Real Madrid won 0-4 and Barcelona beat Seville 5-1 with a hat trick from Messi which makes him the leading all time goal scorer in ‘La Liga’! England beat Samoa 28-9 Wales lost to the All Blacks 16-34 but the result of the day was when Ireland beat the Australians 26-23!! – ‘Sexton’ ( Jonny!) was the star of the game!!

At the ‘Abu Dhabi Grand Prix’ Hamilton is second on the grid behind Rosberg, it is going to be a very exciting and gripping race! Lewis Hamilton has just won the 'Abu Dhabi' Grand Prix and become the 'World Champion' !!

Last night we watched the last episode of the “Rick Stein Mediterranean Cooking” before supper, it was in Morocco and then Turkey with some spectacular simple food using local ingredients and seasonings.

Then after our supper we found a good film to watch which was Produced by, Directed and starred Clint Eastwood “ True Crime’ from 1999 about a prisoner on death row with 12 hours to the go before he is given a lethal injection! Clint is a journalist with all sorts of problems, a recovering alcoholic, a wife leaving him as he is having an affair with his Editors wife, a young journalist/girl friend who is killed in a road accident and the world against him!
