A VERY ' CRISP' & SUNNY MANILVA ON THURSDAY.

THURSDAY 17^th/ JANUARY 2019.

We overslept again this morning so we had a quick freshen up and grabbed our fresh fruit, toast & tea, as we put together the shopping list for tomorrow morning when we are out on our travels down to Sabinillas for the weekly shopping, Brenda is joining me as she wants to go to the ‘ English Bookshop’ for some birthday cards.

‘Chispa’ came calling this morning just as we were having our breakfast, yesterday lunchtime she joined us on our walk, she is in & out all the time and is missing all her friends, just like we are!

This morning it’s ‘ crisp’ and clear, the sun is out already and the sky has cleared, with no clouds, as there is a light breeze blowing up from the Mediterranean, by lunchtime it’s due to reach 17 degs+ - tomorrow it’s going to be more of the same, then on Saturday we could be in for some of the ‘ wet-stuff’ – Sunday is looking dry with patchy clouds and then next week is showing different on the three forecast that I currently follow?! The temperatures are hovering in the mid ‘teens’ – 14/17 degs+ - down to 6/8 degs at night, patchy clouds, with the sun breaking through at times, with the ‘ wet-stuff’ still in the air, on one forecast, all the time?! Watch this space.

The new ‘Estepona Hospital ‘ is on budget and time for opening later this year, which will be good news for us, cutting down our journey time & distance, see below the latest picture.

For our supper this evening we are having the rest of the ‘ Beef & Vegetables Stew with Dumplings’ with the left-over potatoes & vegetables from last night, the ‘ Dumplings’ were to die for, real comfort food for the ‘gods’!  

It’s still ‘ Fish Night’ on Friday, depending on the Market Fish Counter, then on Saturday our regular ‘ Steak Night’ – on Sunday we are having a ‘ Roast Leg of Spanish Lamb’ studded with Garlic & Rosemary, resting on ‘ Boulangere’ Potatoes.

This afternoon/evening we are taking things very easy, relaxing and basically doing nothing, because we can, keeping as warm as possible in our current ‘ Cold-Snap’ – very unusual for the time of the year, the first time that we have had this sort of weather since we arrived down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ back in 2006!

THE COLDEST DAY IN SUNNY MANILVA ON THURSDAY FOR MANY YEARS;

THURSDAY 19^th/ JANUARY 2017.

I was up first this morning to welcome ‘ Reina’ back for the day, she shot into her duvet and I climbed back under ours for a little lie in, after freshening up we had our regular breakfast, we then got the shopping list ready for tomorrow morning, I’m going down to Sabinillas for the weekly shopping. At lunchtime the ‘Jack Russell TJ ‘ is coming for an hour to check out that he and ‘ Reina’ are OK together, watch this space.

Overnight the rain arrived, by this morning its stopped but it’s very cold, the sky is clear and there is just a little breeze, it’s the coldest its ever been here in sunny Manilva for over 35 years, we were speaking to a local resident when we were at the surgery and he said that he had never seen snow in over 30 years, the rest of Spain is a lot colder with minus temperatures all over the country, the snowfalls are the worst in living memory.

Here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ all the mountains along the coast are covered in snow, it’s the first time for many young people that they have experienced the snow, the main mountain across the valley from the village ‘ Sierra Bermeja’ has the most snow cover that the locals have ever seen, the mountain behind Casares ‘Sierra Crestellna’ is fully covered, see the pictures below taken this morning.

For our supper this evening we are having the rest of the ‘Beef & Vegetable Stew’ – tomorrow evening it’s going to be ‘ Goujons of Hake Fillet’ and then on Saturday I’m going to cook one of our favourites, either ‘ Steak Diane or Steak au Poivre ‘ Watch this space.

It’s definitely a stay at home day today, the Oil Heater is on, all the doors and windows are draft proofed, Brenda’s special ‘ Chicken & Leek Soup for lunch.We are going to have a ‘ Quiz ‘ night this evening watching ‘Pointless, Eggheads ‘ etc before catching later the next episode of the excellent police crime drama series ‘Unforgotten’
