A NOW CLEAR & SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND.

FRIDAY 8th/ MARCH 2019.   “ INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY “

I was up early this morning and after a quick freshen up I shot off across to the Hospital in Estepona to the ‘Physiotherapy Department’ for my last session on my problem left hand, on Monday lunchtime I’m back to see the ‘ Consultant’ for a review/check up, Encarni, thinks I will be back for more treatment ASAP! My hand is half better, with movement in two fingers but still a problem with the other two main fingers, I took a nice box of chocolates for the ladies, as a ‘ thanks’ Watch this space.

On the way back I called into the ‘English Bookshop’ in Sabinillas for the local newspapers etc, but after last week’s problems with the parking & traffic I’m back out on my travels first thing tomorrow morning for weekly shopping at ‘ Mercadona’ –  as we didn’t need any flowers or wall plants this week. Watch this space.

This morning has started a little grey & overcast, there is a very slight breeze so the dark clouds are slow to clear away, there is the threat of the ‘ wet-stuff’ in the air, in fact as I was walking back up to the house from the underground car park is was spitting a bit! At the moment it’s brightening up as the sun attempts to break through, by this afternoon it’s forecast to reach 16/17 degs+ - down to 8/9 degs overnight, then over the weekend and into the start of next week it’s going to get warmer with lots of sunshine, back into the 23 degs mark, staying the same for the rest of the week and across next ‘Carnival’ weekend, watch this space.

The beach down in Sabinillas later this morning.

This evening for our supper we are keeping things light & simple, Brenda is having ‘ Pan-Seared Fillets of Salmon’ and I’m having ‘ Pan-Seared Fillets of Hake’ – both garnished with local ‘Gambas’-  accompanied with a basic ‘ Hollandaise’ sauce, with Garden Peas & Broccoli Florets & Baby New Potatoes in their skins.

Last night after watching “ Who Wants To Be A Millionaire “ with two 64,000 pound winners this time, we then caught a very gripping ‘ Western’ over on ‘ TVE 1’ from just 2017, “ Hostiles “ starring Christian Bale & Rosamund Pike, it follows a ‘ U S. Army cavalry office ( Bale) who must escort a ‘ Cheyenne’ war chief and his family, from New Mexico,  back to their home in Montana in 1982. On the way he is attacked by ‘ Comanche’s’ who have just killed a settler and his three children, the wife hides & escaped ( Pike’) and joins the journey. He then has to also escort a soldier/killer to be hanged at the next Fort, who attacks and kill’s a another soldier, just after the party has been attacked by three fur-traders, who kidnap some of the women in the party, they are found then slaughtered and the women rescued, all the time during the attacks various soldiers are killed, as they reach the tribal lands in Montana, where the ‘Chief’ succumbs to his illness, a man and his three sons rides up, tells them that it’s his land and to leave, with the body, a brutal gun battle ensues, leaving only three survivors, watch it to find out who!!

A WARM AND SUNNY MANILVA AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND;

FRIDAY 19th/ SEPTEMBER 2014.

No sign of any of the wet stuff as forecast for today as we shot down to the local market for some fresh flowers after a quick breakfast; its warm and sunny Manilva at its best but its still possible that it will come back over the weekend – watch this space!

We then carried on down to Sabinillas and picked up the papers from the bookshop before our regular weekly shop at ‘Mercadona’ After unloading I shot around to the butchers for our Saturday night ‘Steak Chispa’ has been here all morning playing around our feet and going down to our local shop in the street with Brenda.

Andy called in at noon and helped me sort out both PCs; we cleared a lot files and history, closed some unwanted files and downloaded the picture files to the hard drive, it’s cleared the memories and everything it a lot faster now! Thanks Andy!

So tonight we are having ‘Hake Filets’ which are our favorite at the moment, they have a great flavor and they poach and stay firm, so they are ideal for tonight’s classic dish of ‘Hake Duglere’ I will make the sauce this evening with finely chopped Shallots, Tomato Concasse, a good slug of Brenda’s White Wine, a fish/veloute stock, seasonings to taste and finished with a dash of Cream and lots of chopped Parsley ( Brenda!); we are having Saffron New Potatoes and Garden Peas.

After supper we will find a film to watch, last night a bit later on I watched another live concert from the ‘Jazz San Javier Festival’- this one was modern jazz which I’m not a great favorite of but the musicology?! of the players was spectacular; Lee Ritenour on guitar,Dave Grusin on piano/keyboards together with the double bass player and the drummer with a very large kit – when they did ‘Solos’ it was mesmerizing!

A VERY HOT AND SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF A 'HELLUVA' WEEKEND;

FRIDAY 22nd/ AUGUST 2014.

Up again early this morning and after a quick breakfast we shot around to the local market for some fresh flowers and then on down to Sabinillas, our first call was for petrol and then onto the bank for some cash, we picked up the local papers from the English bookshop and then did our regular main shop in the supermarket.

We shot back up the hill through the vine fields, the new seasons grapes are for sale by the side of the road, then after unloading I checked the car for Oil and Water as I’m taking Den & Josie early on Monday morning across to the border in La Linea for Den to catch his flight home from Gibraltar and Josie is going across into Gibraltar for the day, sadly Brenda is staying at home as ‘Scruffy’ is being picked up later in the morning after his sleep over!

Last night it was very hot so we did not get much sleep, gradually yesterday it went hotter as the day went on and by the time Den & Josie arrived for supper it was stifling – the forecast for over the weekend and all next week is for more of the same and hotter!

We had a really enjoyable night yesterday evening when Den & Josie joined us for supper as you can see in the picture below, many thanks also for the 'special' contribution to the spirit cupboard; the picture was taken with my new camera’s timer and fixed on the Tripod that Den is leaving with me on a long term loan until he returns next year so as I can get used to using it! Thanks!! I will look for one similar when we are next over in Estepona where the camera shop is.

So we have updated/changed the menus for the weekend; I bought a nice piece of tail end of Salmon fillet for supper tonight which I’m going to pan fry and we will have a little of last nights ‘Duglere’ sauce on the side together with the left over vegetables and Saffron potatoes. Then tomorrow night we are going to grab an early light snack as the “ Noche Del Embrujo” is starting to look like its going to be a ‘Helluva’ night – at the moment they are erecting five ‘stages’ along Calle Mar, so on Sunday evening we will have our ‘Entrecote’ steak and Frits night!

At the moment the 'Five Stages' have been built,see the pictures above, and they are installing a sound and light system along 'Calle Mar' Its all looking very professional  - we could be in for a 'Helluva' surprise night!!

We are taking things a little easy today and later we will catch up with our sleep with a good ‘siesta’ before our cocktail hour and some reading. Tonight is film night on all the channels so we will find something to watch after supper.
