A VERY HOT & SUNNY MANILVA ON MONDAY AT THE START OF THE WEEK.

MONDAY 7th/ AUGUST 2017.

We had an extra lie in this morning as last night we had a message from Daniela saying that she wouldn’t be dropping ‘ Reina’ off today, she’s back with us on Tuesday & Wednesday this week, ‘ Chispa’ has already called in to see her friend, it was another very hot & clammy night, with not much sleep possible, after freshening up we had our regular breakfast of ‘ Weetabix, toast & tea.

I then went along to our butchers for something for this evenings supper, I bought some ‘ Escalopes of Chicken Breast’ – he takes the breast off the ‘local’ bird, then slices it, I also bought some Calves Liver, sliced thinly, for another day along with Chicken Wings.

For our supper this evening we are having ‘ Chicken Schnitzels ‘ using breadcrumbs from the local Bakery, Diamond- Cut Broad Beans, twice-cooked ‘ Stringfellows ‘ – the ‘ Schnitzels’ are served ‘ Holstein’ style, topped with Anchovy Fillets & Capers and a ‘ Campo’ Fried Egg – resting on a pool of Tomato salsa.

This morning it’s already very hot & sunny, by lunchtime it will be in the 30s, tomorrow is going to very hot, raising to 36/38 degs, over the next few days and the weekend it’s going to be a bit cooler, hovering on the high 20s! Watch this space.

This morning our regular ‘Pensions Transfers’ into our ‘Spanish’ Bank Acc, over the next three weeks, started, sadly the ‘Euro’ is today at its’ lowest rate ( 1.10750!) since we arrived down here back in 2006, not good news as this month our yearly ‘Annuities’ arrive in our ‘English’ Bank Acc over in Colwyn Bay, waiting to be transferred along with the monthly ones! Watch this space.

On Facebook yesterday we noticed that the son of very old friends was down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ on his holidays, staying just past Marbella, we made contact with ‘ Vic ‘ Ferns and he’s coming across tomorrow morning to sunny Manilva, his parents Vic & Val were very dear friends, back in the late 60s – early 70s,the last time we saw him and his mum was when we were over in the ‘ Isle of Man’ – where they then lived. We are looking forward to catching up with his life since then!

Sadly over the weekend we still have no ‘BBC TV’ –  the ‘Amazon Fire TV Stick’ is still not cooperating, when it happened a few weeks ago it came back on after a few days, we will then go on the ‘BBC I Player’ to catch up with the last episode of ‘Poldark’ etc! Watch this space.

A BEAUTIFUL CRISP DAY IN SUNNY MANILVA AT THE START OF THE WEEK;

MONDAY 20th/ JANUARY 2014.

This morning the sun was shinning through the shutters and the forecast is for more of the same this week, it’s a little cool ‘Crisp’ but still around 15/16 degs! We can’t complain as we are still the warmest spot in Europe, the rest of Spain has heavy snow in the North and storms and tornadoes around the coast by Portugal!

After out tea & toast I shot around to the butchers for tonight’s supper – ‘Baked English style-cut Pork Chops’- with glazed/caramelized ‘Fuji’ Apple slices, Cabbage with Alcelgas, Carrots in Ginger, Garden Peas and the rest of last nights ‘Boulangere Potatoes; the menu for the rest of the week is sorted, tomorrow night we are having ‘Minute’ steak smeared with Dijon Mustard then on Wednesday I’ am making my now famous ‘Chicken & Mushroom Tarragon Pie’ as Mano is joining us for supper, Thursday is a leftover day and then on Friday it will be Hake fillets in Cruz Campo batter!

As I was out the councils ‘Parks Department’ was delivering new large Plant Pots all down Calle Inglasia – all the local residents in the street were out arguing where the pots were to be placed in typical Spanish style, all shouting at once ! Pictures later/above as I have an appointment at the surgery with my Doctor for and update etc. At the same time Brenda is coming for a walk with the dog.The Doctor was called out on a emergency so I've re-booked for Wednesday morning.

Last night on the TV it was the old story, you wait for one and two come along! Two good films on at the same time “Absolute Power ”from 1997 – a political/murder thriller produced, directed and starring Clint Eastwood with Gene Hackman,Ed Harris,Scott Glenn,Laura Linney,Judy Davies and E.G. Marshall or “ The Ghost and the Darkness” from 1996 with Val Kilmer,Michael Douglas,Tom Wilkinson,Bernard Hill( ‘Give us a Job!’) and Emily Mortimer in a great tale that takes part in Africa back in the early 1900s about the early railway builders as they struggle to build a bridge with two killer Lions on the rampage! We choose the second – don’t miss it !!

PS; In ‘La Liga’ last night Barcelona could only manage a surprise draw 1-1 at Levente so they are still top on goal difference with Atl.Madrid with Real Madrds one point behind!

MANILVA START OF THE WEEK

MONDAY/TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY/ 29th/31st OCTOBER 2012.

Monday morning was grey and overcast and the forecast for the rest of the week is not good with more rain on Tuesday and Wednesday (It’s still 20degs! ) So it was an at home day as we get ready to welcome Jane on Friday; her room is ready and we have the weekend planned to take into account that the forecast, sadly is not good – wet! We spoke to Tim in the morning on the Skype Video and caught up with his news, he had seen Jo and Ben on Sunday over in Liverpool – he was just about to go out for a game of golf at Old Colwyn Golf Club which if a remember correctly is a nine-hole course over the hillside meadowland with wonderful views of the Irish Sea and Colwyn Bay ! The par three seventh at just 162 yards is signature hole – come on Tim what was your score ?! On the BBCIPlayer I caught up with Saturday Morning Kitchen and a very good Top Gear Special on the Bond Film cars ! In the evening we had Pan Fried Fillets of Chicken with all the left-over vegetables and Potatoes from Sunday !

On Tuesday it was no better so we had another day in and caught up with our reading, Brenda is on book three and I’ am on Book two in the 50 Shades trilogy; the pictures below of Hurricane Sandy hitting New York just show a few of news pictures and the damage caused – it is like something out of a disaster movie – unbelievable ! For supper we had Pan Fried Liver, sliced thin and dusted with flour and seared ‘ Pink ’with Crispy Smoked Bacon, well cooked English Pork Sausage, Sauté Onions and Tomato and a Jus-Roti made from Sunday’s gravy – Brenda did a little selection of vegetables and Baby New Potatoes – comfort food for the gods !

Today, Wednesday it has stopped raining and the sun is trying to get out; the dog came crashing in as she has not been able to get out during the last two day’s rain storms ! I have just made a large pan of Chicken Curry for dinner tonight. The picture below of the council with the Mayor Antonia shows them overlooking the Plaza Pozo Del Rey  development as they are laying the top layer of cement/concrete over the car park, in between the rain – the picture is from the council web-page as I’ am not able to gain access to the site! Brenda has just gone down to the surgery for her blood pressure test but the nurse has not shown up so she is carrying on down on the bus from outside the surgery, as planned, to go down to Sabinillas for her appointment at the hairdressers for the full works !

We are well into the Bond season of films on the Paramount Film Channel; so far this week it has been “ The Man with the Golden Gun from 1974 with Roger Moore, Christopher Lee and a young Brit Exland, now there’s name from the past ! Then “ The Living Day Lights ”from 1987 with Timothy Dalton and a large cast of actors from the time and finally “ Tomorrow Never Dies ”from 1997 with Piers Brosnan!

PS; Tomorrow is a National Bank Holiday – “ All Saints Day ” One of the main things that take place is that everybody visit’s the family plots in the graveyards, which are unusually full of flowers.
