A VERY HOT AND SUNNY MANILVA ON SUNDAY'

SUNDAY 29th/ JUNE 2014

It’s an all good news day here in a very hot and sunny Manilva after a ‘Helluva’ week! Brenda has had the best nights sleep in a long time despite it being the hottest night of the year so far; a warm breeze from across Africa is making it just bearable today as we settle back into our quiet life in the village, last night we had our neighbors in the street calling in to see how she was, Lumy and Manolo came down from ‘Bar Rojas’ with a little present – we are going up for a cool drink and some Paella later.See the picture below in her new top!

Brian is out most of the time in the village and down in Sabinillas, yesterday afternoon I picked him up from the border in ‘La Linea De La Concepecion’ after his four hour assessment – he’s back on Monday morning for the full interview when Andy is doing the ‘Taxi Service’ He is no problem and its nice to have him around, we have had a good catch up and gossip; he’s very excited about the job, it’s with “ Bet 365.com ” – so fingers crossed both for him and Lilli as there is a slight possibility that there could be an opening for her also!

The hospital was excellent from the consultants, doctors, nurses and the system even to the food – just! In Brenda’s little private two-bedded room her companion was a very nice Spanish lady, Mecedes who spoke perfect English as she lived in England for many years, she helped explain things when required and was very helpful, thanks and hope that everything is OK with your heart operation soon in Malaga – thanks!

The main thing with the food and diet Brenda was given was that it was all salt-free so the new ‘Dietitian’ chef is already planning the new menu regime!  Poached Salmon Fillet last night, Poached Chicken Fillets tonight!!

On the news front we have heard that Jack & Lyn have reached Broome at the top of ‘Western Australia’- last night Den arrived and has joined the ‘Queen of Skelton’ here at their summer retreat! Lots of phone calls at the moment so Brenda is answering the phone to give everyone a nice surprise!

The Blog will be back to normal tomorrow ?!

MANILVA THIS WEEK.

MONDAY/TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY 28TH FEBRUARY/1ST/2ND/MARCH. 2011.

Well after the weekend in Manilva and our exuberant dance moves in front of the village we decided to take things easy on Monday and keep a low profile; the weather is still clear blue sky and sunny but a little cooler as there is a icy blast which has followed Lilli back from Finland all over the country. Mano and Anna called in to catch up with all the news about Sunday as well as some gossip, Brenda has now gone into her spring cleaning mode and has started to wash curtains, clean windows, deep clean the guest rooms and generally get the house ready for our first guests at the end of April ! Tim and Thea we can’t wait !! In the evening for supper we had individual Chicken and Mushroom pies which I made last week and deep freezed and then we watched a film on TV.

TUESDAY 1ST MARCH 2011 SAINT DAVIDS ( DEWI SANT ) DAY.

Happy “ Dewi Sant ” to all our friends over in North Wales; in the morning we took Cheta for a walk around the village and as we spoke to people they all commented on our performance on Sunday ! We picked up Pork Chops from our butcher in the village and had them for dinner along with some beautiful fresh Acelgas that our next door neighbours passed in, they had been at their “ Campo ” over the weekend. We also spoke to Lilli after her holiday over in Finland, they are living in the Aparthotel for a few weeks until their move home; the car is fine and the steering lock came off first time but Lilli did say that it does stick but she has the knack – brute force !

On Wednesday morning Brenda had her weekly appointment with our doctor to check her ankle, it is getting better and she is now finished the medication and has to just exercise and take things easy, at the same time we called into the chemists and checked our blood pressure on the machine and then passed on the print outs to the doctor who records them on the files and advises accordingly,I’am still on the tablets but Brenda just has to check it out every month. When we came back I made a Hot Chicken Curry for supper, Brian and Lilli were joining us to hear all their news from Finland; In the afternoon Mano and Anna called in with the great news that we have been waiting for, he has got a new job that he has been chasing over the last couple of weeks after several interviews; he is starting in a months time as the manager of a Private Boutique Hotel over in Sotogrande,it is owned by a Belgium businessman, it is rented out by the week to private companies and families as well as the family using it, it has nine bedrooms en suit and of course all sorts of facilities including a boat in Sotogrande marina, cars to pick up the customers and a chef to look after all their needs as well as cleaners and gardeners! It is a full time contracted job with regular hours and days off – a dream for him and we are very happy to see him being able to get back to a normal life after the night job at the Aparthotel.

Brian and Lilli joined us later in the evening, they brought two bottles of a very nice Palomino Chardonnay “ Gadir ” from the house of Osborne ( 1772 ) which is local,Vino de la Tierra de Cadiz as it says on the bottle ! The Osborne Black Bull that you see all over Spain on hills by the side of the motorways are still made in Cadiz, there are now only 90 left and are National Monuments. It went very well with the curry and we then had Strawberries with cream and ice cream and a bottle of another local wine,Antonoio Barbadillo ( 1893 ) Palomino Fina from outside Jerez ! It is Brenda’s favorite drinking wine and is very reasonable priced – the Marshall’s left feeling no pain.

Thought for the Day;

A large income is the best recipe for happiness I’ve ever heard of.

CASA OLIMPIA.

Monday/Saturday 2nd/7th November 2009.

Just another week over here in a sunny Tarifa, the weather is still very good for the time of year with long warm days and not cold at night. On Monday I did my usual trip over to Estepona and Manilva and picked up all the essentials for the week. Tuesday was Chicken curry night and on Wednesday we got ourselves ready for Thursday and Friday as we are over in Estepona at the Marriott resort on two sales training days for them. We have not had very much contact with Chris over in London during the last couple of weeks as he is in the middle of some very heavy business dealings to do with his company but hopefully it will be resolved by this weekend. On Thursday morning we went over very early to Estepona as Brenda has not been well with mouth ulcers and it had got into her face; she has not been eating much and has been feeling down, the dentists fitted her in straight away and soon sorted things out and by lunch time she was back to her old self! The weather at the resort for the two days was very hot and sunny and it gave us a break from the villa back in Tarifa and we were paid in vouchers to use at the Spa. Hotel and restaurant over the next few months! Today we have been down to Tarifa for the weekend shopping and Joan’s tablets, tonight it is steak and frits for dinner before we settle down to watch SCD,last night, Friday, we had Calves Liver with Smoked Bacon, sausages and Onions on mash before we watched Robbie Williams and Jools Holland late on. I have just spoken to Chris and it sounds that things have been resolved, which is good news so I am going off to watch the Rugby Union internationals, come on England and Wales ! Oh and sorry to all our Australian family in advance !!
PS; Australia have just beaten us !!
PPS; Wales to beat New Zealand next !!!
PPPS;The All Blacks won also !!!! but the England Rugby League team have just beaten the Kiwis in the semis final and play the Australian's next week !
PPPPS; They murdered us in the final !!
