We had another nice lie in this morning as
the village was very quiet until the Church bells started, calling the faithful
to the ‘Corpus Christi Mass’ - with the small parade later along ‘Calle Mar’
See above all the pictures showing the
procession and the blessing of the ‘Family’
alters along Calle Mar.
After freshening up, as I was on the
breakfast rota I prepared my famous ‘Crispy Smoked Bacon Butties’ – on soft white
buttered bread, toasted brown for Brenda, smothered in ‘HP’ Brown sauce, with
mugs of strong ‘ PG’ Tips Tea, to get the ‘ birthday girl’ back into the land
of the living after a ‘ Helluva’ birthday celebration!
We had a late night, as after returning
from the ‘ Puerto de la Duquesa Marina’ by taxi, we settled down to watch a
very interesting documentary on the ‘ A-Z of the Glastonbury Festival’ – which is
next weekend.
This morning, after a very warm night, with
the bedroom fan on all night, it’s started a little grey & overcast, as you
can see in the pictures above, the sun is attempting to break through, the sky
is starting to clear, as there is only a slight breeze, by lunchtime it’s only
going to reach 24 degs+ - at the start of next week it will be a little warmer,
by Tuesday back up to 29 degs+ - the rest of the week and over next weekend it’s
hovering in the high 20s, with patchy clouds at times, watch this space.
Over the weekend in Liverpool the cruise
liners returned and berthed at the ‘ Pier
Head ‘ – the “Nautica & the Insignia “ – I think, as they might be the same
liner?!
See below;
We went down by taxi to the ‘Puerto de la
Duquesa Marina’ and had a nice drink at the ‘ Griffin’s Bar & Lounge ’ –
yesterday evening, it’s the main bar on the front/centre of the Marina, with
nice seats and good service, the drinks are large ( Beefeater Gin & Tonic
& Bacardi & Coke !!) - as they are hand-poured in front of you!
It was then time to go up to the first
level to “ Restuarant Macues “ where the owner greeted us and showed us to our
table in the window, overlooking the marina. He’s run the ‘Restuarante’ since
1981, one of the first in the old port.
To start, as we checked out the ‘Menu’ they
serve you warm bread, with a Savoury Pate & Crisp Biscuits, I had their excellent
‘Cocktail des Langoustines – Prawn Cocktail’ – six large King Prawns in a rich
Marie Rose sauce with slices of Apple, I ordered for Brenda, a half-bottle of
the’ Marques De Riscal Verdejo Rueda ‘ – my usual for me.
Brenda had the ‘Special of the Day’ – ‘ Grilled Turbot – Rodaballo ‘ – two large/thick
Fillets, seasoned and perfectly cooked, served with ‘Turned’ boiled Potatoes
and slice of local Beef Tomato, on the side a dish of the ‘ House Vegetables’ –
which was ‘out of this world’ by ‘ Spanish’ restaurant standards normally (
over-cooked/grey Macedoine) – it was a selection of ‘ Al dente’ cooked
vegetables ( Mange Tout, Mushrooms, Carrots, Peas, Onions, Aubergine etc) – see
below:
I had my usual, which I have had over many
years, that we have been using the Restuarante, a large ‘ Grilled Sole ‘
seasoned and cooked to perfection, filleted at the table and served with the
sliced local Beef Tomato and a wedge of Lemon, not forgetting the crisp ‘Frits’
See below;
It was the most special meal that we have
had here down on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ in all those years, celebrating ‘ Brenda’s
birthday, excellent service & standards, the food very tasty, perfectly
cooked & served, in a spectacular spot, one we will remember! To finish, on
the house, we had a ‘ friendly Brandy for Brenda and my favourite, iced ‘ Vodka
Caramel ‘
On the table behind us the folks had the ‘House
Special’ of a whole ‘ Baked Sea Bass in Salt ‘ – flamed at the table, as they drop the lights, see
below.
Later we will be catching up with last
night’s episode of “ Killing Eve’ on the ‘ I-Player’ then watching the next
episode of “ Gentleman Jack “ after
catching all today’s sport,’ Tennis, Football, Golf, Grand Prix etc ‘
For our supper we are having ‘Grilled
Fillet Steaks’ with all the trimmings and of course ‘ triple’ cooked ‘Frits’
Not forgetting this evening’s ‘Noche de San
Juan ‘ celebrations down on the beach in Sabinillas, later this evening.
Brenda would like to thank all her family
& friends, from all over the World, as well as our local friends, here in
sunny Manilva, for all the many very kind messages, ‘likes’ E-Mails, Birthday Cards,
Texts etc, she says that it was her best ‘ Birthday’ ever, since we arrived
down here, back in 2006, and started celebrating our birthdays properly, after
retiring, she had a ‘ Helluva’ day, many
thanks & love to all. xxxx
Thoughts for the Day, See above,
