A VERY HOT AND SUNNY MANILVA ON " VENDIMIA " SUNDAY;

SUNDAY 7th/ SEPTEMBER 2014.

We needed a little lie in this morning as the bands/music went on until 4-00am! We didn’t – we were home by 2-00an!! It turned into a nice evening, first because a little breeze came along and made it rather pleasant as we sat and took in the sights, sounds and smells ( grilled Octopus!) of the ‘Vendimia Festival’ in Call Mar; we started back at ‘Bar Castillo’ and watched the parade, our Swedish friend Lillymor joined us with her Polish friend.

We then moved back down to ‘Bar Rojas’ and listened to the music of the first samba/rumba band on the main stage in the front of the Town Hall; Brian and Lilli came along with their friend Jesus and Steve who we had met briefly before but not had the chance to get to know him!

The next port of call was one of the temporary bars that pop up, this one at the end of Call Mar, we then walked down to opposite the ‘Plaza de la Vendimia’ as Jesus’s wife Pila had changed her charity shop into a bar and food outlet for the weekend; she made us very welcome and we had some tasty Tapas, earlier in the evening we snacked on cold Farmhouse sausages and Ham/Mayo soft white bread sandwiches, which Brenda produced from her bag, to keep us going and soak up the drinks!

We walked back up with Lilli as she was still feeling a little under the weather with a bug she had picked up on the way over; we had a little nightcap and then went and laid down and listened to the music until it finished!

So this morning we have just had a fry up/light Brunch to set us up for the day ahead; we are going to freshen ourselves up and have our ‘Happy Hour’ a little earlier than normal before we hit the streets again! Its music and dancing first, then the fight to get this years ‘Vendimia Sombrero’

At around 5-00pm the ‘Andalusia Horse Parade’ takes place before the ceremonial grape crushing taking place in the new pit that I christened last year in ‘Plaza de la Vendimia’ I have arranged with the council to crush them next year for the last time on the start of my 70th birthday celebrations!!

We will then see what is happening before retiring to the house for our ‘Chicken Curry’ supper; watch out for some pictures later.

PS; The ‘Vuelta’ stage 15 today is from Oviedo to Lagos De Covadonga! Honest!!

Thought for the Day; See above.
