HOT AND SUNNY MANILVA TODAY

WEDNESDAY 10th/ APRIL 2013.

Today has got nicer as the day has gone on, by lunchtime when we went for a walk with the dog it was hot; this morning I made our pan of ‘Scouse’ for tonight’s supper which we are having with Cabbage and fresh local Beetroot. The pictures above shows the ingredients; Onions, Garlic,Celery,Leeks,Carrots,Mushrooms,Turnip,Lentills,Green Beans and local white Beans along with the diced Potatoes, Red Wine, Tomato Frito and Beef and Vegetable Stock – the best diced ‘Estefado Beef’ is tossed in seasoned flour and pan fried then the secret ingredients are added to the finished Pot – as you can see in the picture of it cooking on the stove !!

While we were out Brenda called into her dentist and he finished the work on her teeth so she is back on ‘Proper’ food this evening; meanwhile over on the French coast in the Normandy region David and Jane are on a short holiday, David many years ago used to work in the region so they return often to what is also our favorite part of the coast as we parked up on the quayside in Honfleur with the Winnebago and went down the coast on our scooter to Deauville and Trouville – happy days and happy memories – we loved going out and about on the scooter, a 100cc Peugeot – we still have our matching silver helmets!! The picture above shows Jane on the quayside in Honfleur this afternoon and our silver helmets waiting to be used again!

Yesterday afternoon we watched a fascinating documentary on TVE2 in English “ Mystery of a Masterpiece ” – it was a real-life detective story about the quest to discover whether a portrait of a woman as intriguing as the Mona Lisa also was painted by Leonardo de Vinci. The collector who spotted the anonymous ‘Renaissance’ work, Peter Silverman, purchased it for $22,000,had it analyzed by the worlds top experts, and recently rejected an offer to sell it for $ 80 million !! That’s because opinion is still mixed as to whether this is one of the dozen or so extant works by the Italian master; as the story unfolded it was intriguing to watch all the different experts going about their work, Art Historians, Costume and Hair Historians, Scientific/Technology departments of various Universities, a Professor Master of Fingerprints Identification, Forgery experts and one of the worlds most influential Leonardo Scholars ! The picture that you can see above was given the title ‘ La Belle Principessa’ It was painted on Vellum canvas( Animal skin) by a left handed painter, as was Leonardo, they used a revolutionary ‘Multispectral Camera’ They then discover that the painting had been cut out of a book and then glued to the wood back panel – it turns out that the book is still in existence in a Library in Warsaw and dates back to 1452- 1508 – the Vellum was carbon-dated to the same period. On examination of the book they prove that the painting was taken from it by the three stitch marks that match! The book was produced in Milan for a Royal family and Leonardo was in Milan at the same time and worked for them! The Leonardo de Vinci masterwork could be worth at least $150 million! But no definitive conclusion is made and it remains a Mystery to this day !!!

Tonight after supper we are going to watch, upstairs and downstairs, the second leg matches of the ‘UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals; Barcelona v PSG, 2-2 on agg. and Juventus v Bayern Munich 0-2 – Bayern over the weekend won the German Bundesliga for the umpteenth time! ( Pep Guadirola’s new team in the summer!)  Let’s hope that the match officials get their act together tonight as last night both the winning Dortmund goal and Malaga second were offside!! Watch this space.

PS; 1-1 draw on the night but 3-3 on agg - so Barcelona go into the semi-finals !!

Thoughts for the Day;

The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.  The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will make one.  From errors of others ,a wise man corrects his own.
