MANILVA ON A SPORTY WEEKEND

SUNDAY 21st/ APRIL 2013.

We had a nice lie in on Sunday morning and as we were not having a roast, for a change we had nothing to get ready; as we were getting freshened up after breakfast I brought up the BBCTV coverage of the ‘London Marathon’ which we watched for the next couple of hours; it was the perfect day in London for the race as the crowds came out in their hundreds of thousands to watch. All the races were exciting near the end as the lead changed hands – you are never finished until you cross the line!

At lunchtime we went for a good walk with dog and ended up at Bar Rojas sat in the sunshine for our drinks and Paella; when we got back the Grand Prix from Bahrain was on TVE1,it was boring due to the cars having to stop more often because of the problems with the Pirelli tires?! The best part was the fight between the team mates in the ‘McLaren’s’  - Sergio Perez,the new boy on the block had a go at Jenson Button – who did not like having his team mate wiggling his wheels at him ! Vettel dominated the race and won easily.

It was then time for the Premier League football from England; I watched it on the on-line sports channel on the large PC. First it was the Spurs v Manchester City game, Cit were leading at half-time 0-1but in the second half Spurs played some sublime football and scored three goals in 7 minutes to win the match 3-1!! Breathtaking!!

Down stairs Brenda was watching the tennis from Monte Carlo on TDP as Djokovic beat Nadal in the final, Nadal had won the tournament in Monte Carlo for the last eight years!

It was then time for the Liverpool v Chelsea game at Anfield; it ended 2-2 after Suarez had a dramatic late equalizer in the 97 minute, but the game will be remembered for a ‘Bite’ by Suarez on a Chelsea player that the referee did not see, he was also lucky to stay on the pitch when he handled the ball in Liverpool’s penalty area and gave away a stupid penalty - why Reina was not wearing a cap as he faced the sunshine at the Anfield road end we will never know!

It was then time for the MotorGP from Austin in Texas, the ‘Grand Prix of the Americas’ was on late in the afternoon into the evening; Marc Marquez became the youngest rider to win a MotorGP race after seeing off his Repsol-Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa,at the age of 20 – just like I forecast! I watched the racing on TV5 as the Spanish commentators went mad – congratulations to all the Spanish riders in MotorGP this weekend – 1,2 and 3rd in MotorGP,1 and 2 in Motor2 and 1,2 and 3 in Motor3 !! See the picture above;

As the MotorGP was on we had our dinner, flattened Breast of Turkey cooked on the griddle and served with Basmati Rice and a creamy Mushroom sauce along with Garden Peas and sliced Carrots – simple and nice! The late film was a science fiction disaster movie called “ The Day the Earth Stood Still ” from 2008 – with Keanu Reeves as an Alien with feelings, Jennifer Connelly fighting to save the world, Kathy Bates miss-cast as the Minister of Defense and John Cleese being John Cleese ! The young lead is played by Jade Smith the son of Will Smith !

Thoughts for the Day;

Anxiety is the fear of one’s self.  Nothing in the affairs of men is worthy of great anxiety.  The mind that is anxious about the future is miserable.
