SATURDAY 1st
/ SUNDAY 2nd / DECEMBER 2012.
The weather forecast for the weekend is good,
sun and clear skies with no wind but the temperature by our standards is still
cold 13/14 degs! We went for a walk with Cheta around the village and when we
got back Mano and Anna called in to catch up with their news;Mano has finished
work at the villa, for now, and so is on the look out for a job. In the
afternoon it was a sports watching day; I was going to watch the Rugby from
Twickenham but I could not find on the sports channel a live feed, it would
only show the game from Cardiff, Wales played a lot better and were very
unlucky to loose 12-14 to Australia in the last minute after leading for all
the match. So I tuned into watch various games in the Premier League; Manchester City could only manage another draw
against Everton 1-1. Liverpool were lucky to beat Southampton 1-0 but the match of the day was Manchester Utd. win over Reading 3-4
with al the goals being scored in the first 37 mins! I in the meantime went on
the small PC and tuned into the BBC Sports News and followed the Rugby to start on their text service, I
then also went onto the Radio 5 Live feed and was able to listen to the game
from Twickenham with two very excited commentators ! At the same time on Radio
5 Live they feed in more live reports from all the football games as well as
other sports, at one time they went over to Newbury for the Hennessy Gold Cup
which ‘ Bobs Worth ’won with a perfectly-judged ride from Barry Gaeraghty. The
commentator at the Liverpool game was a voice from the past – Stuart Hall !
Anyway back
to the game between England and New Zealand which turned out to be one of the
greatest games of Rugby; England against all the odds beat the ‘ All Blacks ’
38-21 and totally outplayed them, an unbelievable achievement as the World
Champions crumbled, New Zealand were undefeated in their previous 20 matches
and had beaten England in their last nine games! England scored three tries in 10 minutes in
the second half in their record breaking win!! Matt Dawson, the ex – England Captain and scrum half, one of the
commentators was screaming his head off and at the end crying ! What a game.
See the pictures below. In the evening for supper we had Steak a la Plancha
with Chips and then settled down to watch the TV, on the sports report on the
news it showed the highlights of the Real Madrid v Ath.Madrid derby game which
Real won 2-0 and then the Barcelona v Athletic Bilbao game which Barcelona won
5-1 with Messi scoring two goals, the 11th time this season that he
has scored two !
On Sunday
morning we were up bright and early to get the Sunday Roast on the go; Chicken
with Sage and Onion Stuffing, I rubbed the skin with Lemon Juice, Brenda had
Cauliflower and Broccoli florets in a three-Cheese sauce, Leeks in a Cream sauce,
diced Carrots and Baby Turnips and Garden Peas on the menu along with Baby New Potatoes and my Duck fat
Roast Potatoes and of course my finger-licking pan Gravy ! After freshening up
we went up to Bar Rojas for the Rabbit Paella and a drink and were able to sit
out in our shirt sleeves in the warm sunshine ! What a Life !! In the afternoon
I watched the Friday edition of “ Jools –Live ” on the BBCIPlayer, which was the
last live broadcast, after 20 year from Studio 1 at the BBC Television centre
as it is moving to new studios next year ( Manchester? ) In the evening
Mano and Anna joined us for dinner as we had a very enjoyable evening
which finished off with a game of Trivial Pursuits( Pocket Edition ) We then
caught the late film, the Oscar wining “ Mystic River ”from 2003 which was
produced and directed by Clint Eastwood and starred Sean Penn, Tim Robbins,
Kevin Bacon,Laurance Fishburn,Marcia Gay Harden and Laura Linney – the film won
many awards and all the actors in different categories also ! It is a very
riveting and compelling murder drama which is must watch !
PS; This
coming weekend is the longest Bank Holiday in the year as on Thursday it is “ La
Constitucion Dia ”and then on Saturday the “ Immaculate Conception ”holiday.
Thought for
the Day;
The lesson
of history is clear; democracy always wins in the end,
…
