ESTEPONA WEDNESDAY MALAGA - THURSDAY.

WEDNESDAY 12th / THURSDAY 13th/  DECEMBER   2012.

On Wednesday morning we went across to Estepona for some essential shopping; we started in the old tobacconists who have the phone cards for Brenda’s mobile, we then had a coffee and tostada before I went for my haircut at my Barbers ,Manuel is an old fashioned barber and uses a cut throat razor to shave and trim, washes’s and conditions your hair over the old lean back basin then cuts and blow dries your hair before he finished with a scalp, face and neck massage! I also picked up an English paper to read as Brenda went off to the Jeweler’s shop to get a battery for her watch; she also spotted some ear rings so they ended up as her Xmas present! Next on her list was the main cosmetic shop for some of her favorite face makeup and eyebrow pencils;we then met up and called into the light-shade shop near Flower square and was able to find another glass shade for the main bedroom light. On the way back we stopped in Sabinillas and I found a new folder for my files in the Stationery shop; lastly we went to the large lingerie shop next to the beach front which is sadly going into liquidation at the start of January; Brenda had the two4one offer on the Bras and I had the same on the boxers ! When we got back to the house Mano and Anna called in for a catch up and gossip; in the evening we had the Chicken Curry for supper before we watched later on Spanish TV3 “ Downton Abbey ” – more tears as the baby was born but the mother died later! Earlier we had caught on the PC via the BBCIPlayer the latest episode, I think of “ New Tricks ” Last week the cast of New Tricks was spotted in Gibraltar filming a forth-coming episode with Nicholas Lyndhurst ! Watch out for it!

PS; Messi has just scored two more goals for Barcelona in the game against Cordoba in the ‘ Cope Del Rey !

THURSDAY 13th/DECEMBER 20122 – VISIT TO MALAGA.

We were up bright and early to catch the bus down by the surgery for the day out in Malaga on the Council Cultural Department! It was all locals, mainly pensioners so we fitted in very well! This time the driver new where he was going and in fact was very good as we hit Malaga on a beautiful sunny day – 19/20degs! We were first dropped off next to the Cathedral down in the old part of the city next to the port; we had a coffee and tostada in a very old and famous Flamenco Bar ‘ Le Jardin ’right next to the new renovated and clean Cathedral; the unfinished state to the Cathedral led to it being called " Le Manquita "- ' The One-Armed Lady ' as the South Tower was never completed ! Our guide for the day met us and along with Lucy from the Cultural Department who knew what she was doing we the had a very enjoyable day in Malaga. the pictures above show the start of the trip, later we went to the Science Museum next to the Malaga Football Club ground which was very interesting as we had a lecture in the theater auditorium on Electric Conduction and then water properties; we then went around the various experiments in the main Museum before ending up in the Planetarium for a very good look at the stars!

Time for lunch at a restaurant on the beach front at the entrance to Malaga; the wine and drinks flowed as we started with bowls of Potaje served in Tureens on the table; rich with small Fafella Beans,Carrotts and Diced Potatoes – a proper ‘ Potaje ’To follow it was Deep Fried assorted Fish in a light batter with salad and Crème Caramel to finish. A real and very nice Spanish Del Dia lunch. We then got back on the bus and went back into the city and called in at the ‘ Popular Arts Museum ’for a look around the various displays of Old Spain as you can see in the last off the pictures above. Back to the village by 7-00pm after a memorable day out in Malaga – thanks Lucy!

Thought for the Day;

Beauty is a harmonious relation between something in our nature and the quality of the objects that delight us.
