MANILVA THIS WEEKEND JANES VISIT.

FRIDAY/SATURDAY/SUNDAY 2nd/3rd/4th NOVEMBER 2012.

Well we have had a “ Helluva ” weekend with Jane despite the rain ! As we went over on Friday evening to pick her up the heavens opened as we were passing Sotogrande and by the time we were dropping down to Gibraltar we were in thick mist and a cloud burst – Brenda set off across the border to the new airport and returned with Jane after she had had the ‘ Pleasure ’of a wet Gibraltar landing with the brakes full on and skidding along the runway towards the sea !! We then headed into La Linea and parked in the underground car park and headed the short distance, with our umbrellas, to ‘ La Bodeguia’for tapas – it was closed for staff holidays- not a good start to the planned weekend’s festivities ! We decamped to ‘ Café Modelo ’around the corner and the girls had their first of many glasses of ‘ Vino Blanco Grande ’ We then came back along the coast through the mist and rain to Puerto Duquesa and walked to the ‘Restaurante Kinaree Thai ’on the first floor front of the marina; To start we had the ‘ Poh Pia’  Springrolls, crispy fried Chicken ‘Wan-Tan ’and ‘ Satay Gai ’- Chicken Satay Skewers. Jane had to follow Crispy Beef ‘Hong Style’ Brenda had the ‘ Nua Pao Prick Pao ’- Beef with Chilli,Lemon Grass and Basil and I had the ‘ Lamb with Massamen Curry sauce *** ’On the side we had ‘ Phad Thai Choi Thai ’rice noodles with vegetables and fried Rice with Prawns – all delicious and very large portions, all washed down with the wine of the weekend for the girls ‘ Torres Vina Sol ’No pictures on Friday due to the inclement weather conditions – that’s my excuse !

Saturday morning after a lie in we had a nice ‘ Continental Breakfast ’- Spanish style with fresh orange juice, Iberia Ham ,Chorizo, Semi Corado Cheese, local Honey, Yogurt Magdalena’s., toast, tea and coffee; We then set off on out travels but only made it as far as Bar Rojas as the heavens opened – so it was the first ‘ Vino Blanco ’off the day ! In between showers we picked up the car from the car park and set off along the coast in the rain towards Marbella; as the rain stopped we decided to go along the ‘Golden Mile ’and have a look at the “ Polo House ” celebrity restaurant that ‘ James Hewitt ’ fronts ! It was closed as it is only open in the evenings at this time of the year and for Sunday Lunch, from the Carving Trolly. We managed to get a copy of the menu, checked out the kitchens and  toilets and took some pictures as you can see above. We then headed back towards Puerto Banus and called into the ‘ In “ Bar, Restaurant and Night Club – La Sala ”as the heavens opened again, we did not use the valet parking as the two cars in front of us where a Black Bentley and a Mercedes AGM – the Red Fiesta was just not up for it ! The girls had large glasses of the House Pinot Grigio and I had fresh orange juice; the atmosphere was terrific and their wine was very good, so good that they had another and we stayed for a light snack lunch, Jane had the ‘ Club Sandwich ’ Brenda had the ‘ Oriental Duck Wraps ’ and I had a ‘ Steak Sandwich, Rare ’ – they all came with a Mini Ice Bucket filled with some very good ‘ French Fries ’One “ Helluva ” friendly lunchtime session ! See the pictures above. We then dropped down to ‘ El Corte Ingles  ’ and had a good walk around and bought two new glass’s for our evening cocktails. In between the rain again we then drove up to Benahavis, the ‘ Gourmet Capital of the Costa Del Sol ’to show Jane around the village before we came back to the coast and the ‘ Marriott Vacation Club ’where I had arranged passes to go and have a swim and Jacuzzi before having dinner there; the pool was too busy with children on half-term and so as the girls had another glass of ‘ Torres Vina Sol ’ and we called it a day and headed back up to the hills and home. After a late siesta Brenda had the great idea of Egg and Chips for supper which we all really enjoyed before settling down to watch the Bond Film “ Quantum of Solace ” from 2008 – it is Daniel Craig’s second film in the part and we had not seen it before – for a change ! It is very good and shows Craig growing into the part; one interesting bit of information given by Jane is that he comes from Frodsham in Cheshire where his parents live ! Not a lot of people know that !!

PS; Jane has a ‘ Kindle PC ’which is excellent and she reads it all the time, large print and easy to use, the downloads from Amazon are cheap or free – we can only dream that Father Christmas brings us one !!

On Sunday morning after breakfast we got the roast on the go. Roast Leg ( English ) and Shoulder ( Spanish ) of Lamb studded with Garlic Cloves and Rosemary, Boulangere and Roast Potatoes and from Brenda Cauilflower and Broccoli florets Mornay,Ratatuile, Cabbage with Alselgas,Batons of Carrots and Garden Peas along with my finger licking pan Gravy !We then freshened up and went up to Bar Rojas for lunch; Faustino Rosado for the girls and Cuba Libre for me; Brenda had a tapas of the regular Paella and Jane and I had a rather special ' Conejo Paella ' Rabbit that had been shot on Saturday by Manolo at his campo ! You dive in and eat it off the bone - yummy ! In the evening for our starter we had a good old fashioned Prawn Cocktail, requested by Jane, after we had cracked open a bottle of Freixenet Cava Rose, with some Spanish nibbles – see the picture below. Mano and Anna joined us as you can see in the pictures above for dinner as the wine flowed, more Torres Vina Sol and a fine Rioja ! One “ Helluva ” evening was had by all. Later there was two Bond Films on “ Moonraker ”from 1979 with Roger Moore and “ Thunderball ”from 1965 with Sean Connery and Richard Kiels as ‘ Jaws ’

This morning we have just dropped Jane off at the airport in Gibraltar, see the picture above, we will miss her and are already looking forward to seeing her and David next year ! Lots of love to you both and thanks Jane !!

PS; For the jelly babies as well !
