SUNDAY 2nd/ SEPTEMBER 2012.
BRIAN AND LILLI HERE IN SUNNY MANILVA ON “ VENDIMIA ” SUNDAY – DAY 7.
Our day started at 11-00am as we had arranged for the gang to start the day with a full English breakfast under their belts ! Andy came along from his house with Brian; Fried Eggs and Crispy Smoked Bacon, whole Button Mushroom, Baked Potato sliced and fried and a piece of the best steak – rare ! Cold Beers and buttered toast helped it all go down! It then was then freshen up and sort ourselves out time before we hit the streets of sunny Manilva.
By the time we entered Calle Mar the bands had started and the street and bars were packed; we set ourselves up by the main stage as Brian went off with Carlos on a ‘ Bar Hop ’ One thing that has really upset us that there was only bout 20 Vendimia hats given out by the council – as soon as we realised that there was not going to be anymore I found the councillor responsible Paqui and asked what had happened ? Her answer was no money and rather abrupt ! I then approached our three local councillors Mario, Diego and Eva with the same result, but at least they did give their apologies !! Later Antonia the Mayor came along and they all spoke to her and she was all over us – but still with no result.I’am not leaving the matter there so watch this space – the hats are part of the Vendimia tradition and lots of the locals felt the same.
The day festivities went on and the bands played on during the afternoon until the parade of the Andalusia Horses in the early evening; the pictures above give you just a little taste of the day as it progressed and the crushing of the grapes at 7-00pm. I have retired from participating, for now, but I’ am thing of reappearing next year ! One of the local councillors Diego stepped in at short notice when one of the two young ‘ Bucks’ did not make it and Mario our local councillor took my place but did not bother to dress up in the costume ! All three of them did not even have the Vendimia hats! Watch this space. Later we came back down to the house after we had ‘ Danced ’ourselves out for our Curry Supper – Brian came home later for his ! One “ Helluva ” day in sunny Manilva.
