MANILVA - LONDON OLYMPICS,

WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY 1ST/2ND AUGUST 2012.

August already – doesn’t time fly when you are having fun; we are now into the 40s and getting hotter everyday and night ! First thing in the morning Brenda shot down to the surgery to make an appointment; on Monday when she was in the chemists she had a blood pressure test, the reading was high and the our chemist Miguel and his two sons were very concerned; she went back at 11-15 and did not come home until 2 hours later ! As she was on her way to the doctors all three of them came out to see how she was – they gave her another test and everything was back to normal ! Our doctor sent her to the nurse in the surgery for a test and then another one after she had taken a tablet under her tongue ! Everything looked OK and she also had her blood pressure taken – she now has to go back three times in the next week for more blood pressure tests and then have blood and urines tests taken !

Later Brenda had a washing day, she then puts it out on the roof terrace and it’s dry in no time ! Only the ironing left to do which she does on the terrace in her bikini as she ‘ Jigs ’around to the radio which we have up on the top floor ! Meanwhile I’ am in the office shouting my head off at first the rowers and then the cycling – what a great day for Great Britain.

In the evening we had Minute Steak and chips for supper ( Mine topped with a fried Egg ! ) and then watched a really superb western with Gregory Peck called “ The Stalking Moon ” made in 1968 ; it’s a Gregory Peck season so there are lots more of his films to come. Later on TVE2 I watched a Blues concert from Hondarribia up on the estuary of the River Bidasoa in the Basque region of North West Spain; the opening night featured a three piece French Canadian Blues combo “ JW Jones ” – they were very good, at one time all three of them played on the same guitar ! The lead guitarist played slide with a drumstick, the bass player did a very long solo and then the drummer, who looked like a ‘ Geek ’had a 15 minute drum solo – you don’t see this these days !

Today we just pottering about the house, we have just washed the car before it gets too hot – it makes no difference at this time of the year as the car is covered in Sahara sand again overnight ! Jenny has just confirmed that she and Norah are coming over for a week at the end of September – they will be here for my birthday – we are looking forward to seeing them, especially Brenda.

Later I will be watching the Track Cycling from the new super Velodrome which starts today ; we should pick up lots of medals as the team, led by Sir Chris Hoy, have great chances in all the races both for men and women.

Tonight we are having for supper ‘ Sausages ’ for a change with fried Egg, Heinz Spaghetti and more chips – comfort food for the gods ! We will then catch the late ‘ Classic ’ film. I will also be posting lots of pictures from the Velodrome – hopefully.

PS; We have just two two more Gold Medals,Peter Wilson in the Double Trap shooting and the British pair of Etienne Stott and Tim Baillie in the two-man Canoe Slalom !!

PPS; The men's Sprint Cycling team this evening twice broke the world record on their way to victory in the the packed Velodrome - Sir Chris Hoy has equaled Sir Steven Redgrave's British record of five Olympic titles !!

PPPS; We have also won three Silver Medals today.
