A ' FRESH' WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF THE ' VALENTINES' WEEKEND.

FRIDAY 14th/ FEBRUARY 2020.  “ VALENTINES DAY “

I was up early this morning and after a quick freshen up I shot off on my travels down to Sabinillas as the blinding sun was coming up above a sparkling Mediterranean.

I started at a quiet ‘ Mercadona’ for our main shop, before going along to the ‘ Ferreterias’ for glue & batteries, next calling into the ‘ English Bookshop’ for the local newspapers, then shooting along to the far-end of the promenade to the local market for fresh flowers & wall plants, finally calling into ‘ Super Sol’ for the English essentials.

Meanwhile back at the house Brenda took out ‘ Scruffy’ and ‘ Chico’ for their first walk of the day, we had a call from Lucy, yesterday morning, asking us if we could have ‘Chico’ two days early, as their flight had been brought forward, by the Airline, to beat ‘ Storm Dennis’ that is due to hit the UK anytime, they are flying to the USA on Sunday, ‘Chico’ is now with us for 3 weeks, as her young son, Alfred’s operation, at the ‘ Great Ormond Street Hospital’  has been brought forward when they return also, ‘Scruffy’ is due to collected this evening.

As I arrived home to unload Brenda was preparing a ‘Toasted English Pork Sausage Butty’ – smothered in ‘HP’ Brown sauce – open on brown for herself, with mugs of hot/strong tea, to set us up for the day and weekend ahead.

We have yet another beautiful day here in sunny Manilva, down on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ – the sun was out very early and the sky is bright blue & cloudless, there is a light breeze, so by lunchtime it’s due to reach 19/20 degs+ - overnight down to 12/13 degs, the weekend is staying the same, warm & sunny, next week it’s starting warm & settled but on Wednesday, as the next cold, wet & windy ‘ Atlantic’ front comes in, bringing with it more cloudy weather and the ‘Wet-Stuff’ as well as strong storm winds, hovering in the mid ‘ teens’ – back down to only 8/9 degs at night, by next weekend, watch this space.

We are going to have our ‘ Suchi & Seafood Platter’ at lunchtime, the ‘Suchi’ selection ( Smoked Salmon & Sticky Rice roll)  is from the new counter in ‘Mercadona’ – with fresh Langustines ( peeled) from the ‘Fish Market’ and Crab, with homemade ‘ Marie Rose sauce ( Brenda)

For our ‘ Valentines Supper’ I’m preparing ‘Paupiettes of Hake Fillet’ – rolled and secured with a cocktail stick( taken out after cooking) -  poached in a Fish stock/Veloute, then coated in a rich creamy ‘Lobster & Prawn’ sauce,  accompanied with Broccoli Florets & Sugar Snap Peas and Parsley New Potatoes.

To drink we are having ‘Mini bottles ( Benjamins) of Cava Codorniu’ to start  – a ‘Vina Sol Rosado’ to follow and then a very special half-bottle of ‘ Burnt Ship Bay’ Ice Wine Vidal Grapes from the ‘Niagara’ wine region of Canada! ( flown in especially) !!

For our dessert I’m cooking to order my special ‘ Crepes’ a la Mode ‘ – very thin pancakes served with local Strawberries and Vanilla Ice Cream!

After supper we will settle down to watch the regular programmes that we follow on Friday ‘ A Question of Sport, Would I Lie to You & QI’ – later the ‘ Graham Norton Show’

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
